Mr S Crow

Many thanks to Lynda, Elaine and the Committee for the invitation to judge again this year I had a very enjoyable day judging some lovely cats; grateful thanks also go to Sue Barrett who stepped in to steward for me during the day.
A V Original Foreign Premier, Male:  Four cats entered.  GPC.  STARK’S CH & PR DUSHENKA XANDER.  Russian Blue.  5/1/08.   Handsome lad, mature and of good overall type.  Long graceful slender body is of balanced and of very good weight, feeling firm and well muscled with sturdy yet elegant foreign boning; gently rounded chest and slender well shaped limbs ending in compact oval paws in proportion.  Head shows short wedge with good breadth to muzzle and fairly full and prominent whisker pads.  Flat top of head between medium large broad based ears, quite tall with pointed tip and set high and just about vertically to the head when he is fully alert.  Expressive almond shaped eyes are of very good size, set wide apart and at a slight slant, colour is palish to medium green.  In profile forehead shows straight line to upper edge of eye where it forms a distinctive angle to profile line which has a gentle concave dip; chin is level and of quite good depth.  Double coat is fine and of medium length, dense and quite plush in texture although perhaps laying just a little flat – good for the time of year, Shown in super condition with a glistening shine.  Medium blue grey colour is even in tone with good colour to the roots and a distinct silvery sheen.  Tail tapers slightly to rounded tip and almost balances, showing a few ghost rings near end.  Not very happy out on the table, a little more relaxed in his pen, it took some time to get him fully settled and showing correct ear placement, but we got there in the end.  Res GPC.  HOWARD’S GR PR KOORAHK TAWAHN.  Korat.  17/8/99.  Handsome boy, mature and of good overall type.  Balanced semi-cobby body is of very good weight and substance, firm and muscular to the touch with good foreign boning; curve to spine in repose, gently rounded chest and slender strong but elegant legs of good shape ending in compact oval paws in proportion.  Heart-shaped face with broad flat forehead and good width to cheeks tapering to gently rounded muzzle of good breadth.  Medium large ear are broad at the base and of good shape, held just high enough when alert.  Large lustrous eyes are of very good shape are held well open and wet wide apart and at a slight slant to give typical expression, colour is a good “bamboo shoot” green, just the hint of yellow cast to the outer edge of the irises.  In profile has good depth to skull with slight stop, nose slopes down correctly, chin is level and of fairly good depth.  Fine coat is of medium length and lies close to the body, silky in texture, especially for a working boy and in superb condition for ten years old with a gleaming shine to his coat.  Quite dark blue grey colour is even in tone with modest silvering – visible on flanks, along sides and of head, ears and limbs, a few very faint ghost rings on tail.  Tail tapers evenly from heavier base to finer rounded tip, length is just short to balance.  Nervous and a little tense out on the table, more relaxed and settled back in his bed and very sweet natured.   Unplaced.  ANDERSON’S CH & GR PR ANNALOVA LEONID. 23/3/05.  Large handsome lad, mature, strong and of very pleasing type. Long slender body is balanced, graceful and of very good weight and substance, feeling firm and muscular with a good strong medium bone-structure, gently rounded chest and elegant slender shapely limbs ending in compact oval paws in proportion.  Head shows short wedge with good breadth to muzzle and prominent whisker pads.  Ears of good shape with pointed tips are medium large and broad at the base, held high when fully alert but not set vertically on head, when settled he tended to drop them and hold them low.  Large expressive eyes are almond shaped and set wide apart and at a slight slant, colour is medium green with a hint of a yellow cast to outer edge.  Brow appears straight and forms correct angle above eyes with profile line down to nose, which has a shallow concave curve, chin is just level and of fairly good depth.  Double coat is fine and of medium length, dense and laying a little flat, slightly dry along the back, better softer texture along sides of the body, in very good condition.  Medium to slightly dark blue grey colour is even in tone and clear of marks except for some ghost rings towards end of tail, silvery sheen evident on body, head, ears and limbs, but not as good as the Grand winner.  Tail tapers evenly to finer rounded tip, length is short to balance long body.  Calm and very relaxed; a contented boy and easy to judge.
Burmese Grand Champion, Male:  One boy present.  GCC.  BRADLEY’S GR CH AUREUS CHAMPAGNE CHARLIE.  3/11/07.  Handsome mature boy with a distinct masculine look and showing good overall type.  Slender well filled body is nicely balanced, feeling heavy, firm and of very good substance, muscular and strong with straight back, correctly rounded chest and slender well shaped legs ending in compact oval paws in proportion.  Head forms short wide blunt wedge with lovely gently rounded top between well spaced medium large ears, broad at the base and of good shape.  Large lustrous warm yellow chartreuse eyes are of very good shape and set wide apart to give typical expression when he is relaxed, they can appear a little full and rounded when he is nervous.  Very gentle curve to brow, very good break, short straight nose and level chin of fairly good depth.  Fine coat is of medium length and lies close to the body, good satiny texture and shown in super condition with a glossy shine.  Warm medium milk chocolate colour is rich and even in tone.  Tail tapers form slightly heavy base to “paintbrush” tip, length is just short to balance.  Very sweet natured lad, slightly nervous out on the table, more relaxed and settle in his pen.
Silver Tabby Series Maine Coon Kitten:  Two girls entered.  1 & BOB.  KILMARTIN’S NITERAP MARMAZETTE.  Black Classic Silver Tabby & White.  2/3/09.  Gorgeous young lady, well developed and of good size and weight for her age and showing good type.  Long rectangular body is balanced, firm and muscular with good underlying bone-structure, square rump, broad rounded chest and well shaped sturdy legs ending in round paws in proportion with quite good snowshoes.  Head is medium in length, slightly longer than wide with good width to high cheek-bones and fairly full cheeks, strong square muzzle of good breadth with long elegant whiskers.  Medium large ears are broad at the base and of good shape with pointed tips, set high but with good space between, inner-ear furnishings and lynx tufts.  Large lustrous golden yellow eyes are full and round and set wide apart and obliquely to give typical expression.  Bite is just level.  In profile has good depth to skull, profile line has shallow concave curve at nasal bridge, chin is level, firm and of good depth.  Coat is of very good length for her age with top coat of good substantial texture which flows superbly over some soft moderately dense undercoat, ruff developing nicely and clearly evident, fairly modest breeches, tail hair is full, profuse and flowing; beautifully prepared and presented and in lovely condition with a glossy shine.  Black classic pattern contrasts against clear sparkling silver agouti ground, a little solid on lower back, but “butterfly” shape clearly visible across shoulders, smudged “oyster” marks on flanks, broad baring on upper legs.  Pristine white inverted “V” from bridge, across cheeks, muzzle and chin, continuing down chest to under-parts, clean white socks on all four feet.  “M” and skullcap on forehead, mascara effect to eyes surrounded by light spectacles, defined barring on cheeks.  Tail is of good shape, tapering towards tip, and is of good length to balance.  Delightful temperament, confident, relaxed and very sweet natured, she showed herself to perfection.  2.  WILFORD’S NITERAP ARIANWEN.  Black Classic Silver Tabby & White.  5/5/09.  Attractive girl of good size and weight for five and a half months of very pleasing type.  Long body is rectangular in shape, feeling firm and well muscled with sturdy underlying boning, square rump, broad gently rounded chest and sturdy shapely limbs ending in round paws in proportion with snowshoes.  Head is of medium length, slightly longer than wide with high cheeks and quite good breadth to muzzle, I would like it a little stronger and squarer in shape, showing slight teething pinch today.  Medium large broad based ears are of good shape with pointed tips, set high but spaced well apart, modest furnishings and lynx tufts at tips.  Large expressive slightly greenish yellow eyes are full and round in shape and set wide apart and slightly obliquely.  In profile has shallow concave curve at nasal bridge, chin is level, firm and of quite good depth.  Top coat is of moderately good length considering age and flows over minimal soft undercoat, slight ruff and modest breeches, quite good length to tail hair; very well prepared in in super condition.  Black Classic pattern contrasts against clear silver agouti ground, rather solid on back, but “butterfly is visible across shoulders and slightly blurred oysters on flanks, barring on upper legs, pristine white chin, chest and under-parts, clean white socks on all feet; “M” and skullcap on forehead, good facial markings, some tarnishing evident on muzzle.  Tail tapers towards tip, of good shape and just a fraction short to balance.  Very lively girl; swore at other cats when out on the table, good natured and contented in her pen.
Sphynx Intermediate Adult:  One boy entered.  1 IC & BOB.  GIBBINS’S ALNAKEED LISA’S SNOWBALL.  White.  10/10/08.  Handsome young man, maturing well and of very pleasing type.  Long slender body is very well filled and of very good weight and substance, feeling firm and muscular with gently rounded chest, well rounded rump and elegant slender well shaped legs ending in compact oval paws with long toes and cushion paw-pads.  Head forms modified wedge a little longer than wide, high cheek-bones have quite good width, sufficient breadth to gently rounded muzzle, I would have liked a little more strength here; fairly prominent and rounded whisker-pads and defined whisker break.  Medium large broad based ears are of good shape with rounded tips and spaced well apart.  Large lustrous lemon shaped eyes are palish yellow in colour and set wide apart and at a slight slant to give typical expression.  Flat brow, slight break, nose is straight to tip and perhaps a touch long; chin recedes a little and needs more depth.  Good resilient “peach-skin” texture to body, distinct wrinkling on brow and cheeks; clean and well prepared with fine, slightly longer hairs on backs of ears and on bridge of nose.  Prehensile tail is of good shape and length balances body.  Wonderful temperament, and very affectionate boy who was full of purrs.
Russian Blue Kitten, Male:  One kitten entered.  1. BOB not awarded.  KAYE’S SITHEE TOSLAN GUNNING.  28/5/09.  Handsome young lad of medium size and showing promising type.  Long slender body is graceful and of good weight for size, feeling firm and well muscled with good foreign boning, slender well shaped limbs are elegant and end in compact oval paws in proportion.  Head shows short wedge with good breadth to gently rounded muzzle, whisker pads are prominent when he is attentive.  Medium size ears are broad at the base and of good shape with pointed tips, held just about high enough to be vertical when he is fully settled and alert, could be a little taller for perfection.  Expressive almond shaped eyes are of good size and set wide apart and at a slight slant, colour is medium green with a yellow cast at present.  Forehead is very slightly rounded, hint of an angle forming above edge of eyes with slight dip in profile line to nose, chin is just level and of fairly good depth.  Double coat is fine and of medium length overall, although a little long on the back, somewhat lacking density at present and laying rather flat to the body, slightly soft and open in texture, shown in very good condition.  Even rather dark blue grey in colour with some evidence of silver sheen in places, particularly on head and shoulders, faint barring on flanks and ghost rings on tail.  Tail is a little heavy at the base, tapering slightly to rounded tip, good length to balance.  A wriggler and not particularly happy to be handled, he swore at other cats, calmer back in his bed.  Sorry to withhold BOB, I did consider for some time and in the end erred of the side of caution; on reflection I think I was perhaps a little harsh.
Russian Blue Kitten, Female:  One kitten entered.  1.  JOHNSON’S TROIKA ELIANA PUSHKINA.  2/3/09.  Pretty girl of quite good size and weight for almost eight months and of pleasing type.  Long slender body is elegant and graceful, feeling firm and well muscled with good underlying foreign boning; elegant slender well shaped legs end in neat oval paws in proportion.  Head shows wedge with good breadth to gently rounded muzzle pads not particularly prominent due I think because of her mood and tendency to suck in her face.  Flat top between medium large broad base ears are of good shape with pointed tips, tall and held vertically to head when she is fully settled.  Large expressive eyes are shaped like rounded almonds and set wide apart and at a slight slant, good mid-green around pupils with a slight yellow cast to out edge of each iris at present.  In profile forehead appears almost straight, just hint of very slightly rounding, and forms a slight angle with profile line to nose, this is almost completely straight with no real evidence of even the shallowest of concave curves, chin is level and of quite good depth.  Double coat is fine and of medium length, quite dense and with a good soft plush texture already developing nicely, just a touch flat on the back, in super condition.  Even soft medium blue grey colour is even in tone with a good silvery sheen visible; a few ghost rings evident on tail.  Tail tapers slightly to rounded tip, length just balances.  Unhappy and discontented today, she wriggled and hissed and was not willing to be handled for very long, her mood made her more difficult to assess and caused her to flatten her whisker pads and suck in her cheeks.
Ocicat Kitten:  One kitten entered.  1 & BOB.  THEAPLETON’S AALSPOTZ VALDEMAR.  Black Silver.  1/7/09.  Handsome baby boy of promising type.  Slender balanced body is of good size and weight for just under four months, feeling firm and well muscled with gently rounded chest and slender elegant well shaped legs ending in neat oval paws in proportion.  Head shows modified wedge with good width to cheeks and breadth to muzzle which already has the slight suggestions of “squareness” visible.  Medium large broad based ears are of good shape and space correctly with 45 degree angle between.  Large lustrous slightly greenish yellow eyes are shaped like rounded almonds and set wide apart and at a slight slant to give pleasing expression.  In profile has good depth to skull with very gentle curve to brow, slight dip in profile line to nose, chin is almost level and of fairly good depth.  Fine coat is of medium length and lies very close, silky texture is well developed for such a young kitten and shown in super condition with a gleaming shine.  Defined pattern of black spots is evenly distributed and spots contrast well against clear silver agouti ground, spine-line is a little solid at present, double necklace, one just broken, the other well broken, broken bracelets and spots on legs and broken rings on tail; “M” and complex scarab on forehead, well defined facial markings, showing tarnishing around muzzle and down chest and forelegs and feet.  Tail tapers evenly to finer tip, length is a little short to balance.  Delightful temperament, very sweet natured and affectionate, I look forward to seeing how he matures.
Lilac Burmese Adult, Female:  Two girls present in the Open, plus two more to be considered for Best of Breed.  1CC.  YARDLEY’S PAPAGENA YANA YARDLEY.  1/9/08.  Mature attractive girl of good overall type and well worthy of a CC today.  Long slender well filled body is nicely balanced and of very good weight and substance, feeling firm and well muscled with straight back, correctly rounded chest and slender well shaped legs ending in neat oval paws in proportion.  Head forms short wide wedge, quite blunt in the muzzle with very gently rounded top between well spaced medium large ears, broad at the base and of good shape.  Large lustrous yellow chartreuse eyes are of very good shape and set wide apart to give typical Burmese expression.  In profile has very slight curve to brow, very good break, short straight nose; chin is just level and of fairly good depth.  Fine close-lying coat is of medium length coat and smooth satiny texture, in superb condition with a glistening shine.  Warm pale to medium dove grey has an even but slightly creamy tone in the hall light, good frosted effect to head, ears and limbs.  Tail is slightly heavy at the base and tapers evenly to “paintbrush” tip; just a fraction short to balance.  Affectionate and very sweet natured.   2.  JOHNSON’S VERVAIN CHERRYPLUM.  21/3/08.  Attractive young lady of good overall type.  Slender quite compact body is of medium size, lithe and of very good weight, feeling firm and well muscled; straight back, gently rounded chest and slim shapely legs ending in neat oval paws in proportion.  Head shows short wide wedge with slightly rounded top between well spaced medium size ears, broad at the base and of good shape.  Large lustrous rich golden yellow eyes are of very good shape and set wide apart to give typical expression.  Very slight curve to brow, very good break, short straight nose and level chin of fairly good depth.  Coat is of medium length, fine and close lying with a good satiny texture overall, just a touch dry along the back, in very good condition with a healthy sheen.  Even tone to medium dove grey colour, warm but lacks pinkish cast in hall light available, good frosted effect to head and ears.  Tail is very slightly thick is shape, tapers to a rounded tip and length almost balances.  Good natured girl and worthy of CC today so unlucky to meet the winner.  BOB to MOORE’S DULCAMARA PETRONELLA.  4/7/08.  Lovely mature, well balanced girl, very attractive and of good overall type.  Long slender lithe body is of very good size and weight, feeling firm and muscular with straight back, correctly rounded chest and slender elegant well shaped legs ending in neat oval feet in proportion.  Head forms short wide wedge, blunt in the muzzle with gently rounded top between well spaced medium large broad based ears of good shape.  Lustrous large rich yellow eyes are of very good shape and set wide apart to give typical glowering Burmese expression.  In profile has good depth to skull with gently curve to brow, very good break, short straight nose and level chin of fairly good depth.  Close lying coat is fine and of medium length with a smooth satin-like in texture, in beautiful condition with a glistening shine.  Warm medium dove grey with a clear even slight pinkish cast visible and good frosted effect to head, ears and limbs.  Tail tapers to “paintbrush” tip and is just a fraction short to balance long body.  Confident girl, who showed herself to advantage and is very sweet natured.
Blue Burmese Neuter:  One girl entered.  1PC & BOB.  PARRY’S ROSSIKHAN DARLING DAISY.  21/7/08.  Very attractive girl, who is well developed for fifteen months and looking nicely balanced and of good overall type.  Slender compact body is lithe and of very good weight, feeling firm and well muscled with straight back, correctly rounded chest and slender elegant limbs ending in neat oval paws in proportion.  Head forms short wide wedge with slightly rounded top between well spaced medium large ears, which are broad at the base and of good shape.  Large lustrous yellow chartreuse eyes are of very good shape and set wide apart to give lovely Burmese expression.  Very slight curve to brow, good break, nose leather falls slightly at very tip, chin is level and of reasonably good depth.  Coat is of medium length, a touch long on the back, but fine and close-lying with a smooth satiny texture, in super condition with a gleaming shine.  Medium to slightly dark blue grey in colour, even in tone but with a hint of a fawnish overtone; good silvery edges to head, ears and limbs.  Tail tapers evenly to finer rounded tip and length just balances.  Lively, alert and very good natured.
A V Foreign Special Limit Adult:  Three cats entered.  1.  KEMP’S GR CH NATZKATZ JABULANI.  Female Brown Silver Ticked Tabby Asian.  26/1/08.  2.  BRADY’S TROPICATS AQUARIUS.  Male Snow Spotted Bengal.  3/4/08.  Extra 2.  JOHNSON’S KASHYK CZAR DOMBROVSKI.  Male Russian Blue.  8/10/08. Handsome boy of very good size, large and well developed for fourteen months and of very pleasing type.  Slender long body of very good substance, strong yet graceful and feeling firm and muscular with good foreign bone-structure; elegant, sturdy well shaped legs of good length ending in compact oval paws in proportion.  Head forms short wedge, well developed jowls and good breadth to muzzle showing fairly prominent whisker-pads at best and only when he is alert.  Flat top of head between medium large ears which are broad at the base and fairly tall with pointed tips, set just high enough on head at best, but could be just a little more upright and taller for perfection; his well developed jowls perhaps make his ears appear short of vertical.  Expressive large almond-shaped eyes are set wide apart and at a slight slant, colour is medium green with a slight yellow cast to outer edges of iris, should clear with full maturity.  In profile brow shows hint of a curve, appearing almost straight and with correct angle above eyes formed with profile line to nose, which has a shallow concave curve; chin is level and of fairly good depth.  Double coat is fine and of medium length, quite plush in texture, however it lays a little flat to the body and feels slightly dry along lower back, as yet lacking the true dense velvety texture, but in super condition.  Colour is a slightly dark blue grey, even in tone with a silvery sheen visible; a few very faint ghost rings near end of tail.  Tail is heavier at base and tapers evenly to rounded tip, length just balances.  Calm and very relaxed boy, floppy and very good natured.

Russian Blue Breeders Association A C Adult:  Four cats entered.  1.  ANDERSON’S CH MELKELTER RUPERT BEAR.  Male. 20/6/08.  Handsome mature boy, balanced and of good overall type.  Slender long graceful body is firm, heavy and muscular with good sturdy underlying foreign boning, gently rounded chest and elegant slender shapely limbs ending in compact oval paws in proportion.  Head forms short wedge with good breadth to gently rounded muzzle with firm prominent whisker pads.  Medium large broad based ears are of good shape with pointed tips, set vertical to the head when settled with flat top between.  Large pale to medium green eyes are shaped like rounded almonds and set wide apart and at a slant to give typical expression.  Good profile: forehead appears straight to top of eyes and forms distinct angle with profile line to nose, which shows a gently concave curve, chin is level and of fairly good depth.  Double coat is fine and of medium length, dense and quite plush, although laying just a touch flat along the back, good texture for a working boy and in superb condition with a gleaming shine.  Clear medium blue grey colour is even in tone with a good silvery sheen all over, a few ghost rings on tail.  Tail is heavier at the base and tapers evenly to finer rounded tip, length almost balances. A little grumpy when handled but it was the end of a long day, easy to handle and basically good natured.   2.  JOHNSON’S KASHYK CZAR DOMBROVSKI.  3.  KAYE’S SITHEE SASSY SAFFRAN.  Female.  24/6/08.  Very attractive young lady developing well and of very pleasing type.  Long slender graceful body is sleek, slightly lacking in flesh along spine which feels a little bony, lean in the flanks and needs more substance which should come with maturity, with good elegant foreign boning and sound muscle tone, weight is quite acceptable for size and build; slim, elegant well shaped legs end in neat oval paws in proportion.  Head forms short wedge, a little thin in the face with quite good breadth to muzzle and prominent whisker-pads when fully alert.  Flat top of head between medium large broad based ears of good shape with pointed tips, set vertical to head when settle in her pen.  Large almond shaped eyes are set wide apart and at a slight slant to give typical expression, colour is medium green.  In profile brow appears straight forming correct angle above upper eye with profile line to nose, which shows a slight curve; chin is level and of fairly good depth.  Double coat is fine and of medium length, quite dense although a little flat to body today; in super condition and well prepared.  Soft medium blue grey colour is even in tone with distinct silvery sheen visible.  Tail is of good shape, tapering evenly to finer rounded tip and just balances.  Calm, very good natured girl – a pleasure to judge.  4.  STARK’S DUSHENKA YSABELLA.
