Thanks to Grace and the committee for the invitation to this friendly show. It was my first visit to the Celtic and I had a very enjoyable day and some lovely cats to judge. Many thanks to my steward Caroline Turner-Russell for her good company and gentle handing of the exhibits.
MAINE COON BROWN/BLUE TABBY (INC BI-COLOUR) ADULT
BOB CHANT’S GR CH SHEERCLASS PEGGI SOO (64 41w) F 12.09.08 Brown Classic Tabby & White
A sweet girl of 3 years shown in super condition and beautifully prepared. Head of medium length & slightly longer than wide. High cheek bones & fairly full cheeks, almost uniform width to the nose. Good profile & level bite but her chin could be a little stronger. Tall ears set high yet wide apart and large expressive eyes. Long rectangular body of a good weight for her size with strong limbs & long flowing tail. Long coat with the length increasing down her body with a ruff & shaggy belly fur. Classic tabby pattern though the overall colour could be a little richer. White on her feet, chest & tummy.
AOC MAINE COON ADULT, MALE
1ST CC HUNTER’S TASSARE BEAU BAILEY (64 41f) M 29.04.11 Cream Classic Tabby
A very handsome young lad of only just 9 months. Despite his young age he has good strength to his head already with a lovely broad muzzle. Uniform width to the nose, cheeks developing. Shallow concave curve to the profile plus a small nose bump. Level bite but his chin could be a fraction stronger. Tall tapering ears set high yet wide apart with tufts & inner feathering. Large amber eyes, full & round in a slightly oblique aperture & set. Well-grown with a long rectangular body with good bone development. Strong limbs with large feet & tufted toes and lovely long tail to balance. Coat of a shorter length on the body at present and obviously still developing with the beginnings of a ruff and shirt front. His coat could do with a little more preparation especially to his tail and underparts. Attractive colour of cream tabby markings on a cooler agouti ground, classic tabby pattern with oyster markings on the flanks & butterfly across the shoulders. Super temperament - he was all head butts & purrs!
2ND HARVEY’S FOXWIND COBWEB (64 41fw) M 29.04.11 Cream Classic Tabby & White
Another young lad with the same date of birth but no relation to the winner. He was a little apprehensive at first and had the odd grumble but a gentle fellow who wasn’t a problem to handle. Broad masculine head of medium length & slightly longer than wide. Uniform width to the nose, cheeks developing. Reasonably broad, square muzzle though the white on his face doesn’t help. Good profile & level bite with good strong teeth. Tall ears set wide apart with large tufts & a broad base though the inner feathering needs to develop. Large eyes full & round. Well-grown long rectangular body with a square rump. Good bone development with strong limbs and round paws, quite long, well-furnished tail. Coat of a shorter length on the body with a ruff and shirtfront developing. Rather a sweaty tummy, maybe because he a little scared? Warm cream colouration with a classic tabby pattern, oyster markings on the body and barred limbs. White on his feet, chest & tummy as required.
3RD BEARD’S HAMSHILL MILOMAINE NANUK (64 14b) M 03.03.11 Odd-eyed White
A well-grown young man just slightly older than the other two at 11 months. Head developing, a fraction short but with a well-placed nasal bridge though his muzzle could be a little squarer. Good profile & level bite but his chin could be a little deeper. His ears are set quite high & wide apart with good tufts & long inner feathering. Large expressive eyes, full & round, the right blue and the left a greeny colour. Long rectangular body with quite strong bone & reasonably long tail. Clean white coat that had obviously been bathed but a little lacking in preparation as he had some knots in his coat and it had a powdery feel. Silky feel to the topcoat, the length increasing down the body and well-furnished tail. A gentle lad who was easy to handle.
AOC MAINE COON ADULT, FEMALE
BOB HANCOCK’S CH COONTASTIC COPCABANA (64 41ew) F 12.11.08 Tortie Classic Tabby & White
A mature girl of 3 years with beautiful bright colouration to her coat. Broad head of medium length with a well-placed nasal bridge. High cheek bones & fairly full cheeks. Shallow concave curve to the profile, firm deep chin and level bite. Large tufted tall ears set quite high and wide apart. Large expressive eyes, full & round. Long rectangular body with substantial limbs and large round feel. Long flowing tail to balance. Coat of a shorter length at present but beautifully prepared. Tortie tabby colouration of black & bright red contrasting with pristine white. A gentle girl shown in excellent condition and a pleasure to judge.
NORWEGIANFOREST ADULT MALE
1ST CC MANSELL’S FORESTMIST LORD HERBIE (67 31ts) M 07.04.11
An extremely well-grown young man of only 9 months with excellent bone development. Triangular head with a rounded forehead & straight profile. Level bite & deep chin though it rounds off at the tip. Large ears with a broad base, tufts & long inner furnishing; set wide apart & reasonably high though they do follow the contours of his head. Large well-opened eyes in an oblique setting though they could be more oval in shape. Lovely long muscular body carried high on strong limbs with large round paws & long bushy tail. Double coat though with lots of undercoat on the lower body & mainly topcoat down his back – he just needs the two to come together! Lots of coat already with the ruff & shirtfront developing well. Attractive silver tabby & white colouration, a gentle boy shown in lovely condition.
2ND PARKIN’S NORGESKAUKATT KONGE HAKON (67 14c) M 20.04.11
A young boy of only 9 months & I judged him recently as a kitten. Triangular head with a very expressive face though the profile is not quite straight. Firm chin & level bite. His ears could be a little large and he tends to hold them a fraction upright, inner furnishing but no tufts. Oval eyes in an oblique setting though they are set a touch deep and ideally could be a fraction larger. Well-grown body carried high on strong limbs with large round feet. Quite long, bushy tail. Clean white coat, the topcoat beginning to develop. Good length to the coat with a ruff developing & impressive shirtfront already. Shown in lovely condition. A playful chap enjoying his day out. Not quite the maturity of the winner but I’m sure his day will come.
NORWEGIANFOREST ADULT FEMALE
BOB MANSELL’S GR CH FORESTMIST SANARI (67 31ats) F 19.07.09
A well-grown girl of 2½ years who had been beautifully prepared. Triangular head with all sides equal. Almost straight profile & level bite though her chin could be a fraction stronger. Large ears with a broad base, set high & open so as to follow the lines of her head. Large green expressive eyes, well-opened & oval-shaped in an oblique setting. Long elegant body with strong bone & limbs to balance. Quite long, bushy tail. Double coat with lots of undercoat, the topcoat is present but could be more developed. Good length to the coat with a ruff, shirtfront and knickerbockers. Shown in excellent condition and easy to handle.
MAINE COON BROWN/BLUE TABBY (INC BI-COLOUR) KITTEN
1ST& BOB HORTON’S NAMRIB BOSTON BUDDY (64 41w) M 21.06.11Brown Classic Tabby & White
A well-grown boy of 7½ months who had been beautifully prepared. Head of medium length with a broad square muzzle though the white on his face affects the look. Shallow concave curve to the profile & level bite but his chin rounds off a touch. Large tall ears with good tufts, one black and one white, quite good inner feathering. Expressive eyes, full & round in an oblique aperture & set. Long rectangular body with strong limbs & large round paws with tufted toes. Long tail, well-furnished if a little bushy. Coat length developing with the beginnings of a ruff and shirtfront. Clean white contrasting with tabby patches on the top of his head and on his back where the classic pattern can be seen though his tail is rather solid. Shown in lovely condition and easy to handle.
2ND JENKIN & GAY’S JULESCOON TC (64 41w) M 09.10.11Brown Classic Tabby & White
A playful kitten of not yet 4 months with a lovely temperament. Only young so his head is developing, of medium length with a well-placed nasal bridge &broad square muzzle though I would prefer a little more curve to the profile. Level bite but rather red gums. Tall tapering ears with a broad base set high but a little close at present. Expressive eyes, full & round in an oblique aperture & set. Well-grown for his is age and of a good weight for his size. Long body with strong limbs and large feet. Long tail with the fur developing. Kitteny coat with a soft texture and shorter length on the body and the beginnings of a ruff. Warm overall colour and attractive tabby and white colouration. Good head markings and well-marked limbs. White feet, chest and tummy as required plus a small blaze on his head. A promising baby.
AC COLOURPOINTED OR MITTED RAGDOLL KITTEN MALE
1ST HARRISON’S DOLLYBROOKE RED RASPUTIN (66d) M 07.05.11 Red Colourpointed
A well-grown young man who is just a few days off being an adult. Broad head with a masculine look with a flat plane between the ears. Well-developed cheeks & rounded muzzle. Nose of medium length with a gentle dip and almost retroussé tip. Level bite & rounded chin. Medium ears set wide apart with a slight forward tilt. Wide-set eyes of medium blue in a slightly oblique setting though they could be a little larger& more wide open. Long well-fed body with some “puppy fat” at present. Strong limbs of medium length with round paws & tufted toes. Long tail, quite well-furnished & quite bushy. Dense silky coat of medium length with a ruff and shirtfront developing. Pale cream body colour with the points developing. Rich red colour to the back of his ears and tail which shows a few slight rings the colour on his mask & paws developing. A gentle boy with a playful temperament, shown in excellent condition and beautifully prepared and presented.
2ND HARRISON’S DOLLYBROOKE MR LOUIS (66) M 14.06.11 Seal Colourpointed
A younger boy of not quite 8 months but although he is of a good weight for his size I would like him to be of a larger overall size at this stage of his development. Head in proportion, reasonably flat between the ears. Good cheeks but his muzzle is a little square. Medium length nose with a gentle dip in profile though the tip of his nose rolls off. Good chin & level bite. Wide set ears that are a little small but with rounded tips and held forward in profile. Good blue eye colour though he was tending to round his eyes a little. Long body with medium limbs of reasonable bone, round paws with tufted toes. His tail is not very well-furnished as yet & could do with more length for balance. Coat of medium length with a ruff developing, dense & silky but rather shady on the body though there is contrast with his deep seal brown points that are well-matched. A gentle fellow who was easy to handle. From the same household as the winner but lacking the maturity & presence of Red Rasputin.
AC COLOURPOINTED OR MITTED RAGDOLL KITTEN FEMALE
1ST& BOB HARRISON’S DOLLYBROOKE COCOA-DIAMOND (66w) F 21.05.11 Seal Mitted
An attractive girl of 8½ months with lovely deep seal brown points. Lovely sweet expression when she relaxes though difficult to see because of her full mask. Broad head with a flat plane between the ears with well-developed cheeks and good rounded muzzle. Medium length nose with a gentle dip in profile and almost retroussé tip to the nose. Deep chin & level bite. Medium ears set wide apart with rounded tips and long inner furnishing, slight forward tilt in profile. Blue eyes set wide apart that she tends to round but they were OK when she relaxed. Long body of reasonable bone with limbs to balance of medium length and long bushy tail. Dense silky coat of medium length with a ruff developing. Beige body colour with a little shading but good contrast with the points. White chin, chest and underparts to the tail. White mittens across the paws and white back legs just past the hock. A gentle girl if a little shy and not so showy as the boy. It was a close run thing for Best of Breed but she had the better colour and he didn’t want to open his eyes.
