Show Report

Show Manager:  Jacky Edwards
Assistant Show Manager:  Judith Mercer

Saturday the 24th of March 2012 saw the forty-sixth Championship Show of the Preston & Blackpool Cat Club at Preston College Sports Centre, Preston, Lancs.  As the clocks sprung forward this weekend the sun certainly shone on this show with the country basking in the welcome warmth of the early Spring sunshine.  It was a relatively quick journey for me to this show with the added bonus of shared taxi costs with a fellow show reporter on the short ride from the Station to the venue.  On arrival at the show hall the building works from last year had been completed with a fresh new look to the main college reception building.

As the listed Show Manager Jacky Edwards was not in attendance on the day, the Assistant Show Manager Judith Mercer stepped up and headed the show team, who with their many helpers worked hard all day to ensure the show ran smoothly.  The stalls at this show encircle the show hall and also overflow into the vetting in / awards board area, it was good to see a couple of new stallholders and there was certainly some very nice merchandise on offer.  As in previous years at the P&B a number of Myerscough  College veterinary nursing students assisted at vetting-in and then spent the day stewarding, a valuable chance for them to get some first hand experience of the various breeds that are currently recognised by GCCF.  A most excellent lunch was served to Judges, Stewards and Tableworkers in the Colleges Vincents  restaurant.

Best in Show commenced shortly before 4pm with Helen Marriott-Power doing the judging honours assisted by steward Heather McRae, with the clubs Chairperson and Assistant Show Manager Judith Mercer giving a commentary.  The Overall Best of Variety cats for each of the seven pedigree sections alongside the two HP winners had taken up their places in the stylish royal & pale silvery blue bedecked BIS pens laden with goodies and set off with chic royal blue & gold rosettes.  The Best in Show started with the introduction of the two BIS HP’s to the gathered crowd.  The HP winner being Oscar, a handsome 8½ year old Short Hair Red tabby male neuter owned by Miss L Steel at only his third show who gained his Master Cat title on the day.  The Pedigree pet winner was Grand Master Cat Sundust Starr a very laid back 3½ year old Short Hair Apricot male neuter owned by Mrs G Entwistle.

Mrs Marriott-Power then went on to carefully assess each of the seven Pedigree Best of Variety winners, and extra stewards were called for as the final decision was short-listed down to three cats, these being:

  • the Persian  - White (Orange eyed) male kitten - Gemkin Starwind (2a)
  • the British - Blue male adult -  Grand Champion Kolinga Genesis (16)
  • the Burmese - Chocolate female adult – UK Olympian Bronze Imperial Grand Champion Rossikhan Cupcake (27b)

After further deliberation of these 3 beautiful cats by Mrs Marriott-Power the Overall Best In Show Cat for the Preston & Blackpool’s 2012 show was declared as the British - Grand Champion Kolinga Genesis – owned and bred by Andrew & Colleen Brown – a very impressive boy of nearly 20 months – certainly a cat with ‘presence’!

Congratulations to the Preston & Blackpool Committee on an enjoyable and well run 2012 show . . . . . . .  next years date for your diaries is 23rd March 2013 back in Preston once again at the Sports College

Show Report

I should have has my little choccy girl with me for P&B!! But I made a complete mess of her coat the other week So sadly she stayed at home. It’s a lot less stressful just ‘moi’ no cat no stall. I could arrive late and leave early. Brill!!

The 2 hour journey was good but with some fog but Preston was bathed in sunshine all day. I had promised several people I would be there - they were bringing me  goodies for my fundraising stall. THANKS ALL OF YOU.

My plan was to take Chris ‘t-shirt’ up on the offer of a chair by her ‘Feline’ stall as a base in exchange for her having a look round and coffee break. Before I got that far was I was ‘bear hugged’ gosh it was Barry !! ( of Barry & Jayne Harlequin Stall) I had not seen them for over 5 years! So a great chatter went on of our days of stall holding and adventures we had. Onwards to my empty pen where I popped in a poster to explain Boogies absence.

After dumping my bags with Chris and a natter over coffee I met up with Mr & Mrs P then it was with them to the car park to transfer all the wonderful goodies to my car. More coffee and a bacon butty ( how ‘cat show’ they are!!) I decided to take my camera on a trip round the hall as judging had just started. I didn't have a ‘theme’ for the piccies it just happened. Stallholders and judging followed by random happy people with beautiful cats!!!!!. My titles for the pix are just me being humorous….I think !!

The trio of ladies who run the Cameo stall all well known, it is nice to see Barbara wife of the late Des Leigh still keeping involved. Another jokey chat with Barry & Jayne.  Heather B my ‘jam jar’ (money saved for my charity) & email friend was today doing table duties as well as your show wins and ‘proper report’. The North West Pets gang Steve doing Hall Manager duties today as well. A rare photo of one judge ( guess which one?) Our GCCF Chairman allowing me to interrupt her  judging!! My friend Judge Chris B who has been so poorly, ‘looking good’ I was so pleased to see her . Chris B again with a fabulous white kitten and again with the owners. Chris T shirt by her colourful stall My friend Carole O with 2 Chins entered they are so photogenic but then I am biased as it was my breed. Our well known ‘cat vet’ Sue M with her Bengal what a super colour. And many more ………….

BUT my two favourite Piccies are of the much respected Pat A and her winning cat the pride just shone out from her.

Lastly a bit out of focus is Carol holding her Chinchilla aloft and he in true chin fashion is saying loudly TAKE ME HOME NOW …..so very very chin !!

All these exhibitors stallholders management team & cats made this show what it was well run warm and friendly. I had a great day out. Thanks everybody
