I would like to thank Janet and the Committee for the kind invitation to judge at this breed show which was back to back with the Oriental Shaded, Smoke & Tabby Society’s 1st Exemption Show, and for the warm Midland hospitality. My very grateful thanks to Simon Fremont who came especially to steward for me.  He handled the cats with confidence and care and was good company.  Thanks Simon, I hope we can do it again sometime.

Mrs C Ward

I was honoured to have been invited to judge at the friendly Breed Club Show, which was twinned with the first Show run by The Oriental Shaded, Smoke & Tabby Society. It reminded me of how Cat Shows used to be 30 years ago - small, informal and very friendly. The catering too was lovely - all home cooked food with lots of variety. Many thanks Janet for your hospitality. I was also lucky to have such an experienced Steward in Jane Haggar, who as always kept me on the straight and narrow and did her stuff with confidence and expertise in the way she handled the exhibits.

Premier of Premiers Male

GR. PR. N/A to Mrs. Aggett's PR. SHERMESE STILLWATERS (35) Foreign White 2yrs 7months. I was very sorry to have withheld on this stylish boy, but on the day he just did not sparkle and looked a little off colour. His third eyelids were up and his coat was a little dingy and sparse. A very elegant boy, with a long body, good length tail, elegant limbs and neck. Longish wedge, virtually straight profile and a chin that falls back rather. It was difficult to tell if his bite was level, as he had no teeth in the front of his mouth. Good depth blue eyes of good set, but perhaps a fraction small, lovely flared ears, beautifully placed to form the perfect triangle with the wedge. His coat looked slightly open and a fraction long in places. He just did not look quite the ticket to have been given this award on the day.

For BoB Only

Awarded to Haggar's CH SEIDO SLIPSTREAM (29c) Oriental Lilac M. 3yrs. A large and rangy boy of lovely type and gentle temperament. Strong head with large and lovely flaring ears, well placed and a good top of head. Straight profile, chin could be a little deeper, but bite essentially level with a rather untidy mouth of teeth. Lovely clear green eyes of excellent set and shape. He looked a little 'sun kissed' on the day, but I made allowances for a stud cat who clearly spends his time lying in the sun. But I could see that his basic colour on his head and paws was of correct silvery lilac. The coat sound to the roots and of good length and texture.

Oriental Long Hair (Angora) Male/Female

1st CC N/A to Tasker's BUNDOOK BLUE SIOUX (62 16) F. Blue. 2yrs 11months. On first impression I thought this cat was a black, but checked and found that she was registered as a blue. Her coat was extremely dark and cold and for this principle reason I did not award her the certificate. A good sized lady of good Oriental type with good muscle tone, strong limbs, large tufted feet and a good length well plumbed tail. Shortish wedge, slighted angular profile, good sized ears, which could benefit from a little more space between. Brilliant green eyes of slight round shape and a touch straight set. Good chin and bite. He coat was of correct length and silky texture, but as already alluded to it was very dark and cold in colour and was rather grey at the roots.

Havana Male/Female Neuter

1st PC & BoB to Matthews' SOLARUS BRONZE STARDUST FN.10 months 3 weeks. A well grown young lady with a very balanced wedge and of overall good Oriental type. Medium wedge, large and well placed ears, which follow the lines of the wedge, straight profile, deep chin and level bite. Excellent deep green eyes of very good shape and set. Rich, sound Havana coat of good length and texture. I liked this girl very much - nothing extreme, but correctly balanced and it was a pleasure to see a coat that was of correct rich colour and sound to the roots. She was just a fraction cross at being handled, but "her bark was worse than her bite" (as it were!).

Oriental Black Male Neuter

1st PC/Bob N/A to Lord's DRUIDSWAY BLACK PANTHER. 11 months 3 weeks. A stunning looking boy of considerable elegance and presence whose coat let him down. Long bodied and with tall elegant limbs and a tail which could have been a little longer for balance, neat feet. A very 'flashy' head with huge flaring ears, well placed and open at the base, good chin and level bite. Good green eyes of lovely set and shape and a small bony lump behind his ears. His coat of good length and texture, but with brown roots and rusty coloured paws and unfortunately a scattering of white hairs on his neck. What a pity!

Oriental Blue Male/Female Neuter

1st PC & BoB to Lloyd's GR. CH. SEIDO SEASCAPE FN.9 yrs. 1 week. A dear little soul this and looking great for her age! Good overall Oriental type whose tail could do with another inch or two for good balance. Shortish wedge, profile now a touch angular, deep chin and excellent bite. Lovely deep green eyes of pleasing set and shape, good sized ears which when she relaxed were well placed. Darkish blue coat, completely sound to the roots (which blues often are not) and of good length and texture.

Oriental Long Hair (Angora) Male or Female

1st PC & BoB to Tasker's CH. & GR. PR. BUNDOOK OHM MAID (62 43n) Caramel Shaded. FN 7yrs 5months. This cat was a bit of a conundrum! She hardly had any sign that I was looking at an agouti cat. The only evidence of tabby markings was on her forehead, where she had a distinct 'M' of clearly metallic colouring. Otherwise her body was completely clear; there was no vestige of tail rings or leg markings. I understood later that she had been born with visible tabby mackerel stripes, but that these had 'fallen off' over the years. It would have been easy to have judged her as a self cat and as a caramel it was hard to see (especially on a long flowing coat) an 'undercoat' of a different colour from the colour further up the hair shaft. However, I judged her as a shaded and liked her immensely. Her colour was lovely - a clear toffee colour and the coat was excellent for length and texture. She had a long and very well furnished tail, tufted paws and a good ruff. A well grown little person of good Oriental type and with strong limbs and feet. A shortish wedge, very straight correct profile, good chin and bite. Excellent bright green eyes looking stunning in her caramel face and good sized ears of good placement. A very attractive exhibit.

AC Breeders Male

1st Lloyd's SEIDO SPEEDWAY (37) Black Male. 1year 1 month. A very long bodied chap lacking a little muscle strength and looking very much the adolescent at this stage of growth. Long legs and neat paws and a very good length tail. Longish wedge, straight profile, good chin and bite. Huge flaring ears, open at the base and beautifully set. Well shaped and set Oriental eyes of pale green. His coat short and fine textured with some slight 'rustiness' on his paws. A very promising young man.

AC Breeders Female

1st Tasker's BUNDOOK BLUE SIOUX (62 16) F. Long Hair.

AC Radius Adult

1st Tasker's BUNDOOK BLUE SIOUX (62 16) F. Long Hair

AC Kitten (6 - 9 Months)

1st Simpson's KYOMI INDIGO SEREN (37a) Blue F. 7months 3weeks. A very shy little person of good overall Oriental type and of good substance and muscle tone. Well grown body, elegant limbs and a good length tail. Shortish wedge, good straight profile, firm chin and bite not checked. Good sized ears, well placed. Good green eyes of pleasing set and shape. Dark blue coat of good length and texture, but a little unsound in places.

AC Breeders Neuter Female

1st Tasker's CH. & GR. PR. DUNDOOK OHM MAID (62 43n) Caramel Shaded Long Hair. 2nd Jackson's CH. DRUIDSWAY ANANKH SUNAMUN (29c) Lilac 5years 3months. A rather cross lady of good size and Oriental type. Medium wedge, profile not quite straight and her chin could be a touch deeper, bite not checked. Vivid green eyes of excellent set and shape, good sized and positioned ears. Her coat looked as if she sits in the sun or on a radiator, but her face and paws were of good lilac colour and, although the coat was a fraction long, it was to her credit that it was completely sound to the roots.

AC Junior Neuter
1st Matthews' SOLARUS BRONZE STARDUST (29) Havana. FN. 2nd Lloyd's DRUIDSWAY BLACK PANTHER (37 Black MN/

AC Senior Neuter

1st Lord's IGR PR. TENAJ PINK PANTHER (29c) Lilac 3years 7months. A big and strong boy shown in excellent condition. Long bodied and elegant and with strong limbs and feet. His tail is a little thick, but of good length. Medium wedge, well balanced and with good sized well placed ears. Deep green eyes of good set and shape. His coat looking a little dark on the body and a better colour on his face and paws and of good length and texture and sound to the roots.

Foreign White Senior Adult or Neuter

1st Aggett's PR. SHERMESE STILLWATERS MN.
