Mrs J Allen

I was very happy to be called in as Alison Lyall was not able to make the show this year. This show is always one to look forward to and again this year it surpassed expectations!  Full marks to Daphne, David and their wonderful committee on a fantastic show.  A bumper entry with some lovely Coonies to admire.
Thanks to Don Grant for the stewarding duties and this year his shirt remained intact!!! Special mention to the catering corps as well and thanks for the most lovely meal.
I also really appreciated the box of Thorntons – a treat at anytime!! Thanks again to you all.
I have resent this report as due to email problems I do not think my first attempt got through – apologies for the delay.

AC GRAND CHAMPION MALE
IMP GR CH ATKINSONS UK & IGR CH VELVETJEWELS CULLINAN 64 31t
Mature 51/2 year old male looking very impressive.  Exhibiting all that one could desire in a Maine Coon.  Very mature and balanced head type with large, well spaced ears with lovely furnishings.  Nice width to length balance to his head.  Uniform width nose with shallow concave curve in profile.  Large, slightly obliquely set eyes that were very expressive. Super square muzzle and with definite perpendicular line from nose to chin.  Long, well muscled and toned body with long, substantial limbs with round, strong paws. Long well furnished tail.  Although not in full coat the quality of what he had was very nice and exhibiting good clarity to his classic tabby patterning.

RES IGC BARLETTA UK & IGR CH COONTASTIC LUIGI 64 31fts
Another very mature looking 5 year old who also has very good head type and structure.  Very laid back temperament and positively enjoyed all the attention. He took the reserve award on the day purely on the length of his coat, but full marks to his owner on superb presentation and to both owners on maintaining such excellent condition on mature working boys.
No mean feat at all.

RED OR CREAM TABBY WITH/OUT WHITE 14 WEEKS – 5 MONTHS KITTEN
1 BOB BARLETTAS COONTATIC TANGERINE DREAM 64 41dw 10.3.09
This young man quite made me go weak at the knees he just had that look about him! Such a  sweet expression and so well grown for his age.
Very promising large wel set ears that were  nicely tufted! Very good head shape and balance with high cheek bones and nice length to width balance already.  Uniform width nose with shallow concave curve in profile and already showing a very good muzzle and perpendicular line from nose tip to chin.  Proportionate length body and tail for his age and with very nice weight.  Strong well boned long limbs with strong paws and nice tufts.  Very promising strong red classic tabby patterning with the white sparkling and he was so well shown.  Quite the little showman!!

2 JONES LIONMAINE BRIGHT BRIGAND 64 19 11.1.09
This young man was very well grown for his age for me he was just a little round in head structure rather than the desired length and square muzzle. His body and structure were nicely constructed with a very long tail, it was for me just his tendancy to roundness of head type that was my main doubt.

3 JARECKI CHATTACOON RUMTUM ROBBIE 64 19 13.1.09
I am guessing that this must have  been Robbie’s first outing as he was so nervous and generally lacked substance and show preparation.  I hope that as he develops and bodies up he also gains a little in confidence.

RED OR CREAM TABBY WITH/OUT WHITE 6 – 8  MONTHS KITTEN
1 TURNERS CAROLMAINE GENERAL LEE 64 41w 18.11.08
Very well grown kitten with large, high placed ears but with the correct width between.  High cheeks just needing to broaden a little further as he matures to balance the head length. Lovely hazel eyes that were large and well set. Uniform width nose with shallow concave curve in profile. Very promising square muzzle and with decent line from nose tip to chin..  Long, large frame with long tail to balance.  His coat was well developed and showing very nice classic patterning, however just a shade more preparation would have made such a difference.

2 RABEYS COONTASTIC ROCKY MARCIANO 64 41w
Full marks for the show presentation on this young man! For me his body shape and general condition was wonderful, but his head was too short and slightly rounded .  Large, high set ears with great tufts and tips.  Slightly obliquely set adequate sized eyes.  At present rather lacking squareness to his muzzle and general strength to his lower face.  He was not overly happy at being handled.

RED TABBY SERIES NEUTER MALE
1 PR FEARNLEYS COONARIA FIRESTORM 64 41d 25.1.08
One of my favourites on the show scene at the moment, he is a most impressive lad with considerable style. Very nicely balanced head type with large, upright ears well set and nicely furnished.  Expressive large, slightly obliquely set hazel eyes.  Uniform width nose with shallow concave curve in profile.  Super square muzzle with perpendicular line from nose to chin. Long body and tail with very nice substance.  Long, well boned limbs and strong, rounded paws.  His coat was a strong tone of red with clear classic tabby markings.  Very well shown.

2 WILSONS CH ZYDECO ROBERT REDFURRED 64 19 14.11.04
Mature lad who I judged several times when he was entire and it was really nice to see him again. Magnificent head with super breadth especially across his cheeks, balancing very well with the length.  Expressive eyes that were large, well opened and slightlyobliquely set.  Super square muzzle with uniform width nose and shallow concave curve to profile.  Long, well filled body with long, well boned limbs.  Long well furnished tail.  Again a very strong red coat colouring that was well marked with classic tabby patterning.  Well shown and ran Firestorm close for the placings.

3 FITZHARDYS PR DAIRYMAINE EDWARD ELGAR 64 19 15.6.01
Again lovely to reacquaint myself with this lad who I know I handled at the same show last year.  In wonderful condition this boy was carrying a wealth of coat that was well shown and again nicely marked.  He just does not have quite the strength of head of the other two boys which is the reason for my placing but his body type and condition made him well worthy of the third placing in this strongly filled class.

RED TABBY SERIES NEUTER FEMALE
Not in the open but happily to award  the Best of Breed to  RABYS  SUPREME, UK AND IMPERIAL GRAND PREMIER DAIRYMAINE SARNIA CHERIE 64 20e looking a complete picture as always and shown to perfection.

AC SPECIAL LIMIT ADULT
1 WORRELLS DARKTOWER MR BOJANGLES 64 41s
One year old and with some maturing to do, quite nicely balanced head and type.  The tarnishing on his coat rather spoils the overall impression.

2 ROBERTS JEMAHAN CRYSTUL FIRESTAR 64 41ew
Quite a pleasing female who needs to develop her substance further. Generally pleasing head type, she lacks a little on her squareness of her muzzle.
3 CHADWICKS KITITAS DOLLY DREAMCOAT 64 31t

AC KITTEN WITH WHITE MALE
1 MURRAYS ISADORYOU PINK FLOYD 64 41dsw
Very stylish young man only just old enough to be at the show.  Super head strength and balance, large well tufted ears set well on the skull, high but with width between.  Expressive eyes correctly set.  Shallow concave curve in profile and already super perpendicular line in profile.  Long body and tail with great boning and substance. Very delicate coat colouring but with distinct classic tabby patterning.  Expertly presented and with such confidence.  Congratulations on winning best male kitten.

2 DAVIDSONS LIONMAINE BEARFACE BRIAN 64 41sw
Very large, well grown boy who had some interesting colouring on his body, could he possibly be a tortie?  It did not look like tarnishing either!!
Very pleasing head and strength of type, lovely width to head length balance. Nice profile and super squareness of muzzle.  For me a suspicion was his bite it did appear very slightly undershot.  Massive frame and with lovely boning and long, wellfurnished tail.
Very well shown and confident to handle.

3 CANNELLS MABALAKAT LOUIS WAIN 64 41w

AC KITTEN WITH WHITE FEMALE three top quality girls here!
1 CANNELLS SPIRRITZ TARTAN TREMBLER 64 22
I did like this girl, she had very lovely head and type with super strength to her type.  Well grown body with substantial frame and limbs.  Long tail that was nicely furnished.  Very vibrant colouring and super show presentation.

2 BARLETTAS COONTASTIC COPACOBANA 64 41ew
I really had to struggle with the placings of these two girls! I really liked this young lady too and it was honestly just down to the quality of her head in profile that I felt she was just slightly weaker on her chin at present and that was all I could find to separate them.  Another very promising lass with amazing patchwork patterning to her coat that was vibrant in colour and so well shown.

3 LISTERS COONARIA SANDPAPER KISSES 64 41w
I also liked this young lady and she was a worthy third in this hotly contested class.

AC NOVICE KITTEN MALE
1 ISADORYOU PINK FLOYD
2 SANDERSONS LIONMAINE DEXTER MORGAN 64 41as
Very pleasing young man who was extremely well grown and with substantial frame and build.  Pleasing head type with super width to length balance, high cheeks and expressive eyes that were well spaced and set.  For me he just had a slight bump to his nose in profile which spoilt the overall look for me.  Nicely presented and very good to handle.

3 LIONMAINE BRIGHT BRIGAND

AC NOVICE KITTEN FEMALE
1 CHADWICKS LIONMAINE MASAI MARA 64 41
Congratulations on winning best in show kitten, richly deserved – this kitten had it all for me with superior head type and balance.  Large well set high ears, Lovely wide cheeks with high cheek bones and nice length to her head.  Uniform width nose with shallow concave curve in profile.  Excellent square muzzle with super chin to balance.  Very well grown with long body and tail and well boned limbs.  Great clarity to her classic tabby pattern with lovely warm tones and so well presented.  Well done!

2 SHAWS MOONECIA PALOMA PICASSO 64 41ew
Young baby but with considerable quality and personality to match.  Great head and type with lovely large, well set ears.  Expressive large, slightly obliquely set eyes.  Shallow concave curve to nose and nice squareness of muzzle.  Long frame and tail very pleasing coat for texture and patterning and very well shown.

AC LIMIT NEUTER
1 WILSONS CH ZYDECO ROBERT REDFURRED

I did not place this young man in my open neuter class, he was rather worried by everything and he needed more attention to his final presentation.

Many thanks to Daphne & David for the invitation to judge at this very friendly show.  I had a lovely day amongst the Maine Coons and I am very grateful to the exhibitors for giving me the opportunity to judge their lovely babies.  Thanks too to my husband Keith for stewarding, keeping me company and helping with the driving.

OPEN CLASSES

BROWN/BLUE TABBY WITH WHITE (14 WKS – 5 MTHS) KITTEN, MALE
1ST CANNELL’S MALBAKAT LOUIS WAIN (64 41w) M 23.02.09 Brown Tabby & White
A baby boy of 4 months of a reasonable size for his age.  An attractive kitten with white on his muzzle that emphasises the squareness.  Head medium in length with a well-placed nasal bridge but his head needs to broaden with age.  Square muzzle a little pinched at present but probably due to teething.  Uniform width to the nose & high cheek bones.  Shallow concave curve to the profile, deep chin and level bite.  Large tall ears with a wide base & tapering, set high but not very wide apart as limited by the breadth of his head as yet.  Lovely ear tufts & inner feathering.  Expressive eyes of lovely shape, full & round and spaced wide apart.  Rectangular  body that needs to fill out with strong limbs & large rounded feet but his tail could be a little longer for balance.  White on the limbs, underparts and chest.  Very much a kitten coat at present especially on the body where it appeared to be developing with dark colour at the roots and long rusty-coloured guard hairs.  Tabby pattern visible on the head with a tabby “M” on the forehead & his tail is ringed but the pattern on the body developing at present.  Easy to handle with a gentle nature, a promising baby.

BROWN/BLUE TABBY WITH WHITE (14 WKS – 5 MTHS) KITTEN, FEMALE
1ST CALVERT’S PURDYSTON TEXASROSE (64 41w) F 09.01.09 Brown Tabby & White
An extremely well-grown girl of 5 months of a lovely size for her age.  Head a little out of balance at present; good breadth to the head but her muzzle is a little short and could be squarer.  High cheek bones but her nose tapers a little.  Level bite and deep chin that rounds off at the tip.  Wide-set ears held high when she is alert, reasonably tall but they could be larger especially for her age.  Small tufts but lovely inner feathering.  Large eyes, full & round but the aperture & set could be more oblique though not helped as she was looking a little scared.  Long rectangular body with strong bone & substantial limbs.  Long tail but the tip is a little swollen.  Shorter coat on the body at present that emphasises the tabby pattern, longer fur on her tail.  White on the chest & feet and a small patch on her tummy.  Classic tabby pattern with black marking on an agouti base with some warmth to the ground colour.  Pencil lines on the face and tabby “M”.  Clear oyster markings on the flanks and the beginnings of a butterfly across the shoulders.  Shown in lovely condition and good coat quality.

BROWN/BLUE TABBY WITH WHITE (6 – 8 MTHS) KITTEN, MALE
1ST & BOB SYKES’S DARAQUIST CHUBBY BROWN (64 41w) M 17.11.08 Brown Tabby & White
A strong well-grown boy of 7 months.  Head of medium length and slightly longer than wide with good proportions.  Shallow concave curve to the profile plus a small nose bump.  Level bite & deep chin that rounds off very slightly at the tip.  High cheek bones & uniform width to the nose.  Large tall ears with a broad base & set wide apart though they could be a fraction higher and he holds them forwards at times.  Large eyes full & round in a slightly oblique aperture & set.  Well-grown rectangular body of a good weight for his size with strong limbs & large feet with tufted toes.  Long flowing tail.  Good length to the coat with the length increasing down the body & the beginnings of a ruff.  Silky texture to the coat.  Classic tabby pattern with black markings on an agouti base.  Good head and leg markings and ringed tail but a little solid down the lower back as yet.  White in all the required places.  A little grumbly when out but not a problem to handle.
2ND PASSEY’S CELTICOON CHARLIE BROWN (64 41w) M 30.10.08 Brown Tabby & White
A handsome young man of not quite 8 months with lots of presence.  Very well-grown with a strong muscular body.  Head of medium length though his muzzle is a fraction short and could be squarer.  Shallow concave curve to the profile and level bite but his chin could be deeper and it is slightly rounded at the tip.  Uniform width to the nose.  High cheek bones & fairly full cheeks.  Reasonably tall ears with a broad base, set high and quite wide apart.  Good shape and set to the eyes but they could be a little larger.  Lovely body shape, rectangular with a square rump.  Strong limbs to balance with large feet and tufted toes, long flowing tail.  Short coat on the head and shoulders that emphasises the tabby pattern but not his look.  Classic tabby pattern with a rich colour especially on his body and limbs but his tail is a little solid.  Black markings with 3 lines down his back, a butterfly across the shoulders and oysters on the flanks.  White on his chest, tummy and feet.  A gentle fellow shown in lovely condition and he shows himself very well.

BROWN/BLUE TABBY WITH WHITE (6 – 8 MTHS) KITTEN, FEMALE
1ST LISTER’S COONARIA SANDPAPER KISSES (64 41w) F 10.12.08 Brown Tabby & White
An elegant girl of 6 months with a long rectangular body but she needs to fill it out.  Broad head of medium length and slightly longer than wide but her muzzle could be squarer.  Uniform width to the nose.  Slight curve to the profile, level bite and deep chin that rounds off a touch at the tip.  Lovely tufts to her ears which make them look tall but they could be larger, reasonably broad base to the ears but they could taper a little more, some inner feathering.  Her eyes are a little deep set and could be larger, she had some litter in her left eye and consequently it was a little sore.  Good body shape with strong limbs and large feet with tufted toes.  Long flowing tail.  Silky coat, the length developing with the beginning of a ruff.  Warm overall colour the tabby pattern is a little diffuse on the body.  Good head markings, barred limbs and ringed tail.  White on her chest, tummy & feet and small spot on her nose
2ND BROOM’S MYNDMACOONS CRISSMISS EVE (65 41w) F 24.12.08 Brown Tabby & White
A slightly younger girl of 6 months with a lovely feel to her coat though she had lots of litter in it when we took her out!  Broad head of medium length & slightly longer than wide.  Uniform width to the nose & high cheek bones but her muzzle could be stronger.  Good profile with a shallow concave curve.  Level bite and deep chin but it rounds off at the tip a touch.  Lovely tall ears though exaggerated by large tufts, broad base to the ears and inner feathering.  It was difficult to see the set at she kept holding her ears down.  Round eyes in an oblique aperture & set but they are set a little deep and could be fuller.  Rectangular body with strong limbs and long flowing tail.  Dense silky coat with rich colour to the head and shoulders.  Black classic tabby markings but rather solid down her back.  White in all the required places.  A gentle girl but she was a little apprehensive and didn’t show to her advantage.

TORTIE-TABBY OR BLUE-CREAM TABBY +/- WHITE (14 – 21 WKS) KITTEN
1ST BARLETTA’S COONTASTIC MELIKAH (64 41ew) F 28.02.09 Tortie Tabby & White
A very attractive kitten with lovely rich colouring of black & red markings on a copper agouti base and a white spot on her nose in contrast.  A well-grown girl of a good size for her age of not quite 4 months.  Broad head of medium length, slightly longer than wide with good proportions.  Square muzzle, uniform width to the nose and high cheek bones.  Slight curve to the profile, good chin deep and firm and level bite.  Large tall ears with long tufts and inner feathering.  Quite large eyes of good shape & set and a lovely deep amber colour developing.  Rectangular body with strong limbs and large feet, reasonably long tail.  Coat developing with the beginnings of a ruff and her tail is quite well-furnished.  Tabby markings a little masked by the tortie colouration but good facial markings.   A sweet girl shown in lovely condition and a pleasure to judge.
2ND SHAW’S MOONENCIA PALOMA PICASSO (64 41ew) F 03.03.09 Tortie Tabby & White
A young girl of nearly 4 months with a good body shape but she is a little lean at present and needs to fill out & muscle up.  Head longer than wide with reasonable breadth.  Square muzzle, high cheek bones & uniform width to the nose.  Slight curve to the profile, deep chin that rounds off a touch at the tip & level bite.  Large ears set high & wide with a broad base, with tufts & long inner feathering.  Expressive eyes round & full in a slightly oblique aperture & set.  Rectangular body with strong limbs and large feet.  Long tail but the tail fur needs to develop, not very profuse as yet.  Still wearing her baby coat with lots of long guard hairs.  Rich overall colour on the body but tabby pattern rather diffuse as the coat is developing.  Good facial markings, red tabby “M” on her forehead and lovely colour to the ears of mingled tortie with a thumb print.  White on her feet, chest and tummy.  A sweet baby girl who was easy to handle.
3RD GREEN’S BEELZEECOON JEZEBEL (64 41ew) F 27.01.09 Tortie Tabby & White
An older kitten of 5 months, a very elegant girl with a sweet purry nature.  Head of medium length and longer than wide though it could do with a little more width.  Uniform width to the nose, high cheek bones and reasonably square muzzle though the white on her face doesn’t help.  Good profile & deep firm chin but unfortunately her bite is slightly undershot.  Large ears with a broad base, set high and quite wide apart.  Large expressive eyes, full & round and set wide apart.  Long rectangular body of a good weight for her size with long limbs & tail but I would prefer a little more strength to her limbs.  Short coat on the body, dense & a little woolly but long profuse fur to the tail.  Rich overall colour with a mixture of tortie colouration and classic tabby pattern with oysters visible on the flanks.  Well-marked limbs but little tortie colouration there.  White in all the required places.

TORTIE-TABBY OR BLUE-CREAM TABBY +/- WHITE (22 WKS – 5 MTHS) KITTEN

2ND LISTER’S COONARIA FLORENTINE (64 41ew) F 01.01.09 Tortie Tabby & White
A well-grown girl of nearly 6 months.  Head of medium length & slightly longer that wide with uniform width to the nose and a square muzzle.  Slight concave curve to the profile & deep chin but it could be stronger, level bite.  Large tall ears with a broad base and tapering to red tufts.  Large eyes full & round in a slightly oblique aperture and set.  Long rectangular body but it needs to fill out and muscle up.  Strong limbs with large feet and very long tail that is reasonably well-furnished.  Coat of a lovely rich overall colour but of a shorter length on the body at present and little ruff.  Lovely feel to the coat which is soft & dense.  Black tabby markings overlaid with shades of red, classic tabby pattern with oyster markings on the flanks.  Pencil markings on the cheeks and tabby “M”.  White on her chest, tummy and feet.  Shown in lovely condition and easy to handle.
3RD ALLEN’S EMPURRER MEMPHIS BELLE (64 41g) F 07.01.09 Blue Tortie Tabby
A large girl of a good overall size for her 5 months but a little lean & bony on the body at present, she needs to fill out and muscle up.  Head of medium length and longer than wide.  Full square muzzle though a little pinched behind but probably teething at this age.  Uniform width to the nose and high cheek bones.  Shallow concave curve to the profile but a small nose bump detracts.  Deep chin but it is rounded at the tip, level bite.  Large ears with broad base set wide apart but a fraction low, large tufts and long inner feathering.  Large expressive eyes of a greeny colour, full & round and set wide apart.  Long rectangular body with long limbs of good bone and large feet with tufted toes.  Long flowing tail.  Coat length developing, of a shorter length on the body at present.  Classic tabby pattern with blue markings on a beige agouti base overlaid with shades of cream but subtle pattern on the body and rather solid down the spine.  Well-marked limbs and ringed tail.  A gentle girl who was easy to handle.

TORTIE-TABBY OR BLUE-CREAM TABBY +/- WHITE (6 – 8 MTHS) KITTEN
1ST & BOB BARLETTA’S COONTASTIC COPACOBANA (64 41ew) F 12.11.08 Tortie Tabby & White
Stunning colouration to this well-grown girl of 7 months.  Broad head with good proportions, square muzzle and uniform width to the nose.  High cheek bones & fairly full cheeks.  Shallow concave curve to the profile, level bite & deep chin but it could be stronger as it rounds off at the tip.  Large ears set high & wide with a broad base and tapering, tufted tips and long inner feathering.  Large eyes, full & round in a slightly oblique aperture & set.  Long rectangular body with super boning.  Substantial limbs with large feet & tufted toes, long flowing tail with profuse fur.  Excellent preparation to her dense silky coat increasing in length down the body with beginnings of a ruff.  Very rich colouration of black & red contrasting with sparkling white but the classic tabby pattern is hard to see.  White on her chest, underparts & limbs.  Shown in excellent condition.  A very regal girl who shows herself so well & is a pleasure to judge.
2ND DUNN & EVANS’S ELMCOON WILDFIRE (64 41ew) F 08.12.08 Tortie Tabby & White

3RD LONGLEY’S LONCOON CARRIE (64 41e) F 23.12.08 Tortie Tabby
A 7 month old girl with reasonably strong bone, rectangular body but she could be heavier.  Head of medium length & longer than wide with a well-placed nasal bridge.  Square muzzle and almost uniform width to the nose.  Slight curve to the profile, deep chin that rounds off at the tip and level bite.  Large ears set high & wide with lovely tufts.  Good shape to the eyes but they could be a little larger.  Long body with limbs to balance but her tail could be a little longer though flowing with profuse fur.  Dense coat with a good classic tabby pattern overlain with shades of red and tortie extending through the coat but the overall colour could be richer.  Slight rings on the tail.  She too was a little grumbly when handled but not a problem.

Mrs E Culf

Ten years of Championship Shows, and ten years of absolute success culminating in this year’s spectacular entry, resulting in my invitation to help out, together with the bonus of some open classes, when Malcolm Brace sadly had to withdraw from the show, he certainly missed a treat!  I was also delighted to be asked to judge the Best Female Kitten and Best Male Adult for the best in show finale.  My kitten was Mrs Chadwick’s Lionmaine Masai Mara, a simply stunning young brown tabby girl with, I’m sure, a promising future ahead, whilst the adult was the incredibly charismatic Ch Ishcus James Bond, a truly striking looking black and white lad owned and bred by Mr & Mrs Barletta.  A wonderful atmosphere prevailed all day, thanks in no small measure to the Show Management Team of Daphne Butters and David Howe, with a merry band of helpers smiling throughout!  It was my pleasure to be involved again, thank you all, including the catering team for a delicious lunch.  Thanks also to my good friend, Ron Mlynek, who came along specially to steward today, he is one of the best handlers of exhibits I know, and always presents every cat expertly and confidently, they in turn respond accordingly, show themselves off with style and aplomb!

CLASS 8          BROWN/BLUE TABBY (INC BICOLOUR) PREMIER FEMALE
GPC, HAYNES’ UK IMP GR PR DAIRYMAINE EMILY, 64 20, BROWN TABBY, 05.05.03
An extremely stylish lady, gushingly beautiful, who I have had the pleasure of judging before, she just looks better and better!  Excellent length to breadth ratio for the head, high cheek bones, fairly full cheeks, excellent definition to the strong square muzzle, firm and deep chin.  Uniform width to nose with shallow concave curve to the profile, very pleasing symmetry.  Lovely tall and large ears, spaced apart and with good width between them.  Alert and expressive full round eyes.  Quite a heavy and well structured girl, with a long and muscular body, breadth to the chest and strong legs, large tufted paws and a flowing tail to balance well, all combining to create the desired rectangular appearance of the breed.  Beautifully prepared, as always, wearing a glossy top coat that shows well patterned brown tabby markings, lengthening down the back and flanks and showing frontal ruff and shaggy breeches.  She shows a small amount of white around her mouth.  She has such presence, commanding everyone’s attention and is a delight to handle.
RGPC, BUNCE’S GR PR KEVERSTONE CHICORY, 64 31at, BLUE TABBY & WHITE, 11.02.07
Another extremely attractive female, who was again groomed to absolute perfection, my thanks to both these exhibitors for their attention to detail, in what is after all a beauty contest!  Her head shape is just as the standard requires, being slightly longer than it is wide, she has high cheek bones and full cheeks.  Uniform width to nose with lovely shallow curve to the profile, nicely squared off muzzle.  Her ears are set well apart and are held tall when you have her full attention, but for absolute perfection I would like them to be slightly larger and she lacks tufts at the moment.  Super expression from full and round vivid green eyes that truly sparkle.  Excellent body size and structure, lovely muscular tones to the frame and substantial legs, large paws, tail could be a fraction longer ideally.  Her blue tabby markings are well defined on the head, with butterfly markings and oyster patches on the body, the glossy top coat covers the fairly thick undercoat, lengthening down the back and flanks and she has a white chin, bib, chest and paws.  A little tense whilst being handled today, and grumbled a touch to start with, but grew in confidence so we could admire her fully.

CLASS 14         DILUTE SILVER TABBY SERIES ADULT
CC & BOB,BARLETTA’S UK & I GR CH COONTASTIC LUIGI, 64 31fts, CREAM SILVER TABBY & WHITE MALE, 23.05.04
What a fabulous nature this entire male has!  He was so relaxed and happy, just adoring the attention and showing himself off to absolute perfection, standing regally on our trolley, then deciding to lay down and pose whilst I wrote about him.  In his prime at just over four years old, wonderful head size and proportions, tall and large ears spaced well apart and just tufted, high cheek bones and full cheeks, strong square muzzle and good depth to the chin, just a fraction wider would enhance his appearance even further.  Full, round green eyes are set slightly obliquely.  Excellent body size and weight, breadth to the chest and thick set limbs, his tail is a good length to balance well with the body.  Very pale creamy coat on a silver agouti ground colour, with chalk white tufted paws.  His coat was well presented, just a touch short at the moment, needing his undercoat and ruff to develop, and his tail fur could be a little more profuse!

CLASS 43         AC ADULT FEMALE
1ST, HAYNES’ CH COONVIVIAL SCARLET RIBBONS, 64 31dt, RED TABBY & WHITE, 12.05.05
What a pretty name for a most attractive female.  I liked her head shape, being slightly longer than it is wide, with high cheek bones and fairly full cheeks.  Uniform width to nose, with shallow concave curve to the profile, square muzzle and reasonably firm chin, that has good breadth but could be a fraction deeper.  Full and round vibrant amber eyes are set slightly obliquely and spaced wide apart.  Good size girl, nice strong and muscular feel to the body and limbs, large tufted paws and a flowing tail to balance.  Well presented and well patterned flame red coat, with white markings and a delicate white patch on her nose, the pattern is slightly diffused along the back.  Alert and inquisitive female, showing herself well.

2ND, SAVILLE’S ISHCUS MELISA, 64 41ew, TORTIE CLASSIC TABBY & WHITE, 01.03.08
Another pretty young lady, who was a little unhappy to be handled this morning, mumbling gently throughout her assessment.  Good head proportions already, albeit the breadth to the top of the head is developing slightly faster than her cheeks and muzzle, which looked a fraction narrow, though muzzle shows square contours, chin could be a fraction stronger.  Nicely placed ears, plenty of width between them.  Her eyes were full and round when she opened them fully, she just tended to squeeze them together while weighing us up, which gave a little too oriental a look at times.  Well grown female, excellent body size and structure, substantial legs and large round paws, long flowing tail.  Her well presented beautifully coloured coat was going through a seasonal moult, leaving plenty of fur on our table!
3RD, DAVIDSON’S JULESCOON PHOEBE, 64 41w, BROWN CLASSIC TABBY & WHITE, 04.11.07

CLASS 58         AC KITTEN WITHOUT WHITE
1ST, CROOK’S BEARDWOOD THEO ROUSSEAU, 64 41, BROWN CLASSIC TABBY MALE, 28.02.09
A very striking looking young lad, just four months old and already displaying so much quality, and a rather impish and playful expression.  His head proportions are correct, being medium long and slightly less wide and he has high cheekbones, cheeks filling out well.  Lovely ears for size and set, spaced well apart.  Full, round eyes with vibrant deep copper colouring, set slightly obliquely.  Uniform width to nose with a profile that could be more curved, it is his one peccadillo in that the profile looks almost straight, good pencil line from nose leather to chin, square contours to muzzle that just needs to strengthen up as he develops.  Good body size and weight, firm and muscular tones to the body and limbs, big tufted feet and long tail.  His warm brown tabby markings are superb, easily the most stunning patterning I’ve seen (so far) today, clear and defined.  A very playful and happy lad.
2ND, ELMCOON DARK KNIGHT, 64 15, BLACK MALE, 02.11.08
A handsome boy, wearing the most incredibly glossy jet black coat, as shiny as a soldier’s toe caps on parade!  Good head shape, medium in length and slightly less wide, high cheek bones and cheeks filling out.  Well placed large ears, good width at the base and tapering to appear pointed, with long tufts and good furnishings.  Uniform width to nose with shallow concave curve to the profile, firm and deep chin, square muzzle.  His eyes are pale green in colour, spaced fairly well apart but could ideally be larger.  Lovely body size and weight, solid and muscular frame with proportionate limbs and large tufted paws, lovely flowing tail for one so young.  Well presented coat, still growing with undercoat to thicken up some more and ruff and breeches still to develop.
3RD, 64 41e, LONGLEY’S LONCOON CARRIE, TORTIE CLASSIC TABBY FEMALE, 23.12.08

CLASS 61         AC KITTEN FEMALE (14 WKS – 5 MONTHS INC)
What a bevvie of beauties to admire in these next two classes, I believe the breed has a great future ahead with these compellingly gorgeous young ladies!
1ST, BARLETTA’S COONTASTIC MELIKAH, 64 41ew, TORTIE CLASSIC TABBY & WHITE, 28.02.09
Wow!  This young lady has to be my favourite exhibit, let alone kitten, of the day, and definitely one to watch for the future.  I thought she looked simply stunning, and I would have loved to take her home with me, though her very proud owner and my Birmans would surely have had something to say about that!  Just four months old, and oozing star quality, she simply sparkled.  Lovely head shape, her ears are well positioned and good size, her profile is gorgeous, she has a square muzzle, good firm chin.  Her expressive eyes are full and round, set slightly obliquely and a vibrant coppery colour.  Well grown girl, lovely balance and substance to body and limbs, and excellent length to tail.  Her coat was a sumptuous kaleidoscope of colours, with various shades of red overlaying the black markings that are on a warm copper agouti ground colour, spectacular, and she has a small splash of colour on her nose to enhance her facial look.  Beautifully presented girl, very promising and I shall be interested to watch her progress on the catwalk, she is a beauty, with no doubt a mountain of accolades coming her way!
2ND, HEWITT’S CHATTACOON DOLLY MIXTURE, 64 31et, TORTIE TABBY & WHITE, 13.01.09
Another very attractive female, also looking every inch a star in the making.  Very pleasing Maine Coon look, her head proportions are excellent, the length to breadth ratio is just right, she has high cheek bones, cheeks filling out well.  Full, round amber eyes are set slightly obliquely, alert expression.  Tall, large ears with good space between, tufted and well furnished.  Uniform width to nose with shallow concave curve, enhanced by her strong white blaze running down the nose, excellent square contours to muzzle, firm chin and level bite.  Well proportioned young lady of good body length and weight, large paws with wispy tufts, long tail to balance well.  Her coat was a strong mix of tortie tabby colours, with pristine white markings, just needing a little more attention to her underparts, though by the time we judged her the hall was getting warmer than ever, so it was not surprising that she was beginning to feel a little less comfortable than I’m sure she started the day!  Wonderful nature.
3RD, HARDWICK’S RUTTERKIN SKYBLUE-PINK, 64 22a, BLUE TORTIE & WHITE, 17.01.09

CLASS 62         AC KITTEN FEMALE (6 MONTHS – 8 MONTHS INC)
Another super class of very promising looking females, delighted the show management team allowed me an extra place, though four first places would have been even better – and justifable!
1ST, BROOM’S MYNDMACOONS CRISSMISS EVE, 64 41w, BROWN CLASSIC TABBY & WHITE, 24.12.08
I did like the overall look and balance of this very attractive female, what a Christmas present she turned into for her breeder!  Exceedingly well grown girl, with lovely length to breadth ratio to the head, super ear size and set with good width at the base, tufted and well furnished.  Uniform width to nose with lovely shallow curve to the profile, strong square muzzle and deep and broad chin.  Her obliquely set eyes are full and round, but she did give off rather an air of indifference, despite three judges trying to attract her attention to make her look up proudly at me, she must have thought we were a very strange sight waving our teasers in unison!  Lovely solid structure, good body length and breadth to chest, substantial limbs and large tufted paws, flowing tail to balance.  Well presented coat, glossy on top with undercoat developing, slightly diffused brown tabby patterning to back with a wide solid black spine line.
2ND, CANNELL’S SPIRRITZ TARTAN TREMBLER, 64 22, TORTIE & WHITE, 30.11.08
Very attractive girl, her whole demeanour says “I’m a Maine Coon, ready to go hunting”.  Excellent head shape, medium long and slightly less wide, super ears for size and set, well tufted and well spaced.  Uniform width to nose with shallow concave curve to the profile, pencil straight line to strong square muzzle and good chin, level bite.  Lovely expressive full and round eyes, slightly two tone amber/green colour at the moment.  I really liked her expression, she looks so alert and friendly.  Very pleasing body size and weight, long and showing breadth to the chest already, substantial limbs and tufted paws, long flowing tail looks fabulous.  Sparkling coat condition, presented to the last hair, with pristine white feet, nicely patterned with attractive facial markings with a central blaze to enhance her appearance.
3RD, BARLETTA’S COONTASTIC COPACOBANA, 64 41ew,  TORTIE CLASSIC TABBY & WHITE, 12.11.08
EXTRA 3RD, LISTER’S COONARIA SANDPAPER KISSES, 64 41w, BROWN CLASSIC TABBY & WHITE, 10.12.08

CLASS 74a       AC NEUTER WITHOUT WHITE
1ST, GR CH & PR COONARIA SHAMWARI, 64 41, BROWN CLASSIC TABBY MALE, 28.04.07
I’ve judged this handsome lad before, he really is maturing into a fine example of the breed.  He is so relaxed and looks so regal and poised.  Fabulous head shape, full and round vivid green eyes, excellent ears for size and set, strong square contours to the muzzle, firm chin, just a hint of a bump to the nose near the tip.  He has a thick and fairly long neck leading to a long and strong body, with substantial limbs and huge round tufted paws, and a long flowing tail; all combining to create the wonderful rectangular appearance of the breed.  His glossy and lavish top coat has been expertly prepared, very nice definition to the classic tabby patterning, the warm copper agouti ground has strong black markings on top, the coat lengthens down the back and flanks and he has a ruff to frame the head, full breeches.  A true gentleman and a worthy winner.
2ND, TAYLOR’S SHIMERCOON STAIRWAYTHEVEN, 64 41, BROWN CLASSIC TABBY MALE, 08.07.08
A younger boy than my winner, still with plenty of time on his side.  Very good head shape, being medium in length and slightly less wide, high cheek bones and cheeks filling out well, uniform width to nose with shallow concave curve to the profile, square muzzle and strong chin, that shows a touch of white.  Expressive, smouldering look from full and round eyes, set slightly obliquely.  His ears are well spaced apart, with good width at the base and could be a fraction larger for perfection, though once we had his undivided attention, they looked taller.  Well grown young man, excellent body size and weight, well proportioned and toned, with thick set limbs, large tufted paws and a flowing tail.  Well presented for the show, his undercoat is covered by a thick glossy top coat, with good pattern definition.  Nice to handle.
3RD, MAYNARD’S PR DOTCOM LEONARDO, 64 20, BROWN TABBY MALE, 06.05.06

CLASS 74b       AC NEUTER WITHOUT WHITE
1ST, FEARNLEY’S COONARIA FIRESTORM, 64 41d, RED CLASSIC TABBY MALE, 25.01.08
I’ve judged this lovely lad before, and he continues to look very stylish and regal.  He has excellent head proportions, high cheek bones and full cheeks.  Uniform width to nose with lovely shallow concave curve to the profile, just a slight hint of a nose bump.  Lovely strength to muzzle and chin, small amount of white around his mouth.  His large ears are spaced well apart, tall and well positioned, with tufts and furnishings.  Full round amber ayes are set apart and obliquely, super expression.  Excellent body length and weight, standing proudly on strong thick set limbs, large tufted paws and a wonderful flowing tail to balance.  Beautiful condition to his vibrant flame red coat, that is exquisitely patterned, with a defined butterfly marking across the shoulders, solid spine line, stripes on the sides and oyster patches on the flanks, leg barrings and strong tabby facial markings complete the picture.  Very relaxed boy, a pleasure to judge again.

2ND, TAYLOR’S KADACOON FYTCHEY BEAR, 64 15, BLACK, 05.01.08
A striking looking lad.  Lovely medium length to head, breadth is slightly less, high cheek bones and cheeks filling out well.  Large, tall ears are set well apart and are well tufted, that did look better once we had his full attention, before that he tended to hold them down slightly making them look smaller than the ideal.  He has a shallow curve to the profile, strong square muzzle and good depth and breadth to the chin.  Full and round expressive eyes, set slightly obliquely, a pale green/amber tone to the colour.  Well grown and well proportioned, muscular and solid frame, standing on substantial limbs, large tufted paws and a long flowing tail to balance.  Well presented glossy black coat, with undercoat developing.  Not in the best frame of mind, just a touch “hot and bothered”, but who can blame him on this hot afternoon!
3RD, 64 41, TAYLOR’S SHIMERCOON KASHMIR, 64 41, BROWN CLASSIC TABBY FEMALE, 08.07.08

CLASS 81a       AC JUNIOR NEUTER
1ST, WILKINSON’S COONTASTIC EDUARDO, 64 41sw, SILVER CLASSIC TABBY & WHITE MALE, 29.04.08
A wonderful looking lad, hard to believe he is so young, just over a year old but already looking quite mature and extremely well grown.  Excellent head shape, the length to breadth ratio is just right, he has high cheek bones and full cheeks.  Lovely large well positioned ears, with tufts and furnishings.  Expressive vivid full and round green eyes are set slightly obliquely and apart.  Shallow concave curve to the profile, nice pencil straight line from nose leather to deep firm chin, excellent square muzzle.  Well grown and well proportioned, his body is long and strong, with a muscular feel to the neck and chest, substantial limbs and huge round paws with tufts, long flowing tail to complete the picture.  His classic silver tabby coat is well prepared, with black markings overlaying the silver ground colour, undercoat is thick and he has a ruff and breeches, just showing some slight tarnishing.  Really promising young lad, delightful to handle.
2ND, FEARNLEY’S COONARIA FIRESTORM, SEE CLASS 74b
3RD,  GAY’S JULESCOON WHACKER, 64 41aw, BLUE CLASSIC TABBY & WHITE MALE, 05.08.08

CLASS 81b       AC JUNIOR NEUTER
1ST, GIBBONS’ DOADINE SAM CARNE, 64 41f, CREAM CLASSIC TABBY MALE, 23.09.07
A relaxed boy, with a lovely expression from piercing green eyes.  Good head proportions, being medium long and slightly less wide, high cheek bones and full cheeks.  His ears are large and fairly well positioned, just a fraction low and he was tending to hold them down slightly when he came out of his pen, much better when he relaxed.  Shallow concave curve to the profile, square muzzle and reasonably firm chin.  Very good body weight and structure, well toned and muscular, with substantial limbs and large tufted paws, flowing long tail to balance.  His cream tabby coat is seasonally short, needing his undercoat to develop to enhance his appearance, and he needs his ruff to come through.
2ND, COXALL’S PURDYSTON TOBIAS, 64 31s, BLACK SMOKE & WHITE MALE, 02.11.07
What a striking and almost wild look this boy has!  His eyes are a vivid amber colour, full and round shape and set slightly obliquely and they really stand out against the black colouring of his face.  Good head proportions, being slightly less wide than long, very nicely balanced look to the head and ears, shallow concave curve to the profile, strong square muzzle.  Excellent body size and structure, long and weighty feel, proportionate limbs and flowing tail.  His black smoke coat looked a little unkempt this afternoon, it is fairly long and dense with the silvery white undercoat making more of an appearance than it should, particularly around the head and shoulders.

Four superb boys.
1 MC  BULLIVANT’S STORM - such a handsome fellow, two years three months old.  A black silver Somali, his long, flowing, soft coat had been beautifully prepared.  Such a friendly and contented boy, he was equally happy standing on the trolley, having a good look round, or letting me cuddle him.  He was so pleased to see me, thoroughly enjoying having a fuss made of him - he convinced me that he was the winner.  A smashing lad.
2          ASSINDER’S OLLIE - a stunning looking three year old Maine Coon gentleman.  He had silver tortie tabby markings - the spectacular colours beautifully blended.  His long coat was so soft and had been excellently prepared, and he had a wonderful long plumed tail.  Such a gentle and calm boy, he was so happy to pose on the trolley so I could admire him.  An impressive fellow - I wish I could have given him a certificate as well as Storm.
