Many thanks for the invitation to judge – a busy day covering several of the shows – some of the cats were feeling the cold as the hall was rather chilly.
AOV FOREIGN CHAMPION MALE: GR CC BOOTH & SHEWARD’S CH VALISA FLASHING BLADE (77). Slightly timid at first but lovely gentle nature. Large ears of good set being just wide of parallel, wide open at base, with warmth to backs. Gentle rounding to skull, muzzle is broad and shows a whisker break. Large hazel green eyes of good shape and expression with good width between. Clear facial markings with dark pigmentation around mid salmon coloured nose leather, blunt nose. Profile shows a slight stop, small bump to nose, level chin. Lithe, slim and muscular body, slim across haunches, of good weight and feel. Golden ivory coat showing very good sepia ticking, feint warm toned broken necklace. Slim well muscled legs with inner front leg markings and knee markings on rear legs with brown spurs on lower hocks. Tail is of good shape and length, having a dark tip with colour on upper side extending towards the body. Coat is in very good condition with shine and is close lying, of good texture.
RES GR CC not awarded. 2. LAUGHER’S GR CH LOHR AZTEC CAMERA (72 43bsq). Obviously a working lad but body rather rangey and looking out of balance with head at present. Medium sized ears of good shape and set. Gentle rounding to dome slightly set behind ears, slight flattening between ears and to brow. Pale golden yellow eyes of good shape. Mature head with short wedge having a blunt muzzle, acceptable nose break, would like more depth to chin. Slim medium sized body with legs of good shape and oval paws. Coat is a little long but lies well and of good texture, chocolate shading is a little uneven, showing silver undercoat, broken necklace and a couple of tabby markings top of limbs. Tail of good shape. Very sharp claws which he likes to use and made it difficult at times to handle. Good nature really, just feeling a little hormonal I think.
AOV FOREIGN CHAMPION FEMALE: GR CC SANDERSON’S CH JINNOMNI DRASNIAN SAKURA (77). Large ears of good shape and set being just wide of parallel, warmth to backs. Gentle rounding to skull with blunt nose to broad muzzle, showing whisker break. Good width between green eyes of good size and shape, giving typical expression. Clear facial markings with dark pigmentation around mid salmon coloured nose leather. Profile shows a slight stop with level chin. Slim medium sized body, of good weight and muscle, slim legs of good shape with neat oval paws. Very good texture to ivory coat with lovely sepia ticking, inner front leg markings, just a hint of knee marking on rear legs, brown colour on lower hocks. Tail of good shape and length with dark tip and colour on upper side extending towards body. A slightly wriggley girl but of good nature and temperament, in lovely condition.
RES GR CC Another very nice girl, unfortunate to meet the winner today, fully deserving of the certificate. MILLWARD’S CH YOKOTA LUCIE LOCKETT (74c). Slight rounding to top of head with large ears of good shape and set. Very nice eye shape and size, bluey green in colour, lovely expression. Muzzle of good length, showing whisker pinch, would ideally like a little more nose break in profile, level chin but would like more depth. Elegant body of good size, weight and feel, being well muscled and firm, slim elegant legs and oval paws. Very good texture to close lying coat of good lilac colour, shading gradually into points. Good shape and length to tail. A gentle girl just coming up to 2 years of age, nicely developed and has a lovely temperament, in fine condition.
LILAC BURMESE ADULT FEMALE: A lovely line up of girls. Three to consider for BOB - awarded to: COLIN’S GR CH AUREUS FEMME FATALE (27c). I recall I judged this girl as a kitten and gave her Best in Show then, she has developed into a beautiful cat - congratulations.
1 & CC BONE’S CH SYKRIS EYE CANDY. Slight rounding to top of head, with good breadth between slightly large ears of good set. Chartreuse eyes of good shape and size. Short wedge with blunt muzzle, acceptable nose break, small bump to nose line, level chin of medium depth. Compact girl of good weight and feel with slim legs and oval paws. Warm tone to darker lilac coat of good texture, slightly open today as though feeling the cold. Good length to tail.
BLUE BURMESE NEUTER FEMALE: 1PC & BOB Sweet temperament, very happy within her pen. Rather large ears the size of which was accentuated due to being rather mobile but of good set when relaxed. Gentle rounding to top of head with good breadth between ears. Large yellow eyes of good shape and set. Short wedge with slight nose break, level chin but would like more depth. A young lass of 11 months with slim elegant body of good weight, slim shape to legs and oval paws. Super texture to fine, close lying coat of mid blue colour, showing silvering and in lovely condition. Tail of good shape, needs more length.
LILAC BURMESE NEUTER FEMALE: 1PC & BOB STEPHENS GR CH & PR MILLGILL MIMICRY. Slight rounding to top of head with ears of good size and set. Pale chartreuse eyes of good size, serious expression. Short balanced wedge with definite nose break, would like more depth to chin. Solid, slightly plump body in good condition, well shaped legs and oval paws. Coat of good texture, slightly long now and a little open, probably due to the cold. Tail of good shape, needs more length. Sweet, perky nature.

Good heart shape to head with large ears, rounding to tips, set high and alert. Flattening to large forehead with good width between eyes which are large and luminous given typical expression, amber cast at present. 2. LUXFORD-WATT’S DU-BU TROUBADOUR (33 30b). Another young well developed lad, 14 months old. Large ears of good set with rounding to tips, slight flattening to skull. Eyes of good size, a
rather broad bridge to nose, accentuated by his nervousness in the morning, which detracted from his eye shape. Gentle rounding to muzzle showing a pinch at present and looking slightly long, but may have been due to his timidity. Slight dip to nose line in profile, chin shallow and recedes, level bite. A strong muscular lad of very good weight, elegant long body with slim long legs and oval paws. Coat covers well and of very good texture, dense and well waved except where slightly flat on spine. Good weight and feel to elegant slim body of good size, slim long legs with neat oval paws. Lovely coat texture which covers well and is well waved. Flattening to skull between ears of good shape and set, although does hold high some of the time, wide at base and showing small tufts. Short wedge is wide at eye level with large eyes. Muzzle shows a whisker break with slight stop to profile, rather a retrousse nose, chin of good depth but set back slightly, level bite. Slim body of good weight for size with long slim neck, slim long legs with neat oval paws. Coat covers but rather untidy at present and density is to develop. Very little waving evident, long and untidy on spine. Tail of good length covered with rather long straight coat. A cute character who handled well.
SINGAPURA CAT CLUB:
SINGAPURA ADULT MALE: Two very nice lads. 1CC GREENFIELD’S GR CH KARCASAM LITTLE DEVON. Gentle rounding to skull with large ears of good set, being wide at base and set just slightly wide of parallel, showing warmth to backs. Markings on inner front legs and knee markings on rear legs, brown colour on lower spurs of hind legs. Tail has black tip with colour extending on upper side towards body, needs more length.
2. SHEPPARD’S JINNOMNI BELOVED BONNIE. Youngest in class, what a shame she was not at all happy to be handled and therefore not showing herself well. Large ears of good set and shape, gentle rounding to skull with warmth to back of ears. Hazel eyes of good size and shape, good width between. Clear facial
markings with pigmentation around salmon nose leather. Broad muzzle with blunt nose, showing whisker break, slight stop to profile but would like a deeper chin. Tail tending towards thin in shape, dark tip with colour on upper side extending towards body. Well behaved.
A very enjoyable and busy show and I must thank Celia and the committee for their kind invitation and hospitality. I was privileged to judge the SHCS Cat of the Year and was impressed by the quality of the twelve exhibits. My final choice was Mrs Gribben’s Grand Champion Rushlight Promise, a beautiful tortie silver spotted. She had excellent type, large expressive copper eyes, a beautiful coat and pattern and, most important of all at the end of the day, a wonderfully confident and sweet temperament. Many congratulations to her owner on a well deserved win. I would like to thank my steward, Vivienne Rice, for her excellent company and hard work. I look forward to another day working together.
AC BRITISH GRAND PREMIER, MALE
1 IGP/WH MATTHEWS’ GR PR PAMPURRED PAPER-TIGER, 30, MN, 20.5.2006
This boy was an excellent size, big and cobby with a solid feel and good boning. Massive head that was well rounded. His ears were a little large and prominent rather than fitting into the contours of the head. Very good orange eyes. Short, broad nose and reasonably good chin. Excellent body, legs and tail. The coat was short, dense and a good texture. The ground colour was fairly warm and he was well spotted with minimal linkage. Good condition and temperament. I would have awarded a Grand Premier Certificate on the day, but did not feel he was of that extra special quality required for an Imperial Certificate.
2 BARBER’S GR PR WHITESEAL SILVER MOON, 30S, MN, 3.7.2002
A mature silver spotted with many excellent features. However, on the day I felt his head appeared slightly small in relation to the body which made him appear out of balance. He did have excellent green eyes that were large, round, well-opened and very expressive. Those, coupled with his excellent spotting were his best features. He did have noticeable tarnish on the face and paws.
AC BRITISH GRAND PREMIER, FEMALE
1 IGP/WH MARTIN’S GR CH & GR PR WELLMAR KALEIDOSCOPE, 22, FN, 29.9.1996
A veteran female who was showing her age I felt. She was not particularly happy to be judged although was not at all bad tempered, she just did not show to advantage. Good head with neat ears set well into the contours of the head. Her eye colour has faded to a pale lemon and her eyes seemed deep set. Short, broad nose that was straight and reasonable chin. Compact body but I would like more strength to the legs. The tail was of a balanced length. The coat was rather long and had scurf. There was no real density to the coat and it lay flat. Some of the black and red was mingled rather than patched and the definition between the patches and the white was untidy with stragglers. Not up to the standard I would expect for and Imperial certificate on the day.
AV FOREIGN GRAND PREMIER, MALE
Now this was a completely different class where I had four excellent neuters - the caramel silver Asian, the red ticked Asian, the brown spotted Bengal and the silver Egyptian Mau all worthy, in my opinion, of the Imperial Certificate and I had to split hairs to make my decision!
1 IGP ANDERSON-KEEBLE’S GR PR SANTILLO FEROMESES MERCURY, 78 30S, MN, 10.7.2007
An excellent example of the breed, beautifully presented in sparkling condition. The head formed a slightly rounded wedge with moderately large ears set at the correct angle and slightly flared. There was good width between them and they continued the lines of the head. Large, rounded almond eyes set beneath a level brow and parallel lines to the nose gave him that unique worried look. The eye colour was the yellowish green of cooked gooseberries. Very gentle contour to the profile and there was that slight rise from the bridge of the nose to the forehead which flowed back over the head to the arch of the neck. The body was moderately long and muscular. He looked masculine and strong but still retained the required elegance. Elegant legs with almost round paws. Moderately thick tail of balanced length. Superb coat quality, it was of medium length, close-lying and had the correct resilient texture. Absolutely clean silver with no hint of tarnish anywhere. Clearly defined facials with the M to the forehead and frown marks. Scarab to the top of the head. Black mascara lines to the cheeks. Clear and separate spotting and broken necklace on the chest. Well barred and spotted legs. The tail was well ringed with a black tip. He was not too happy with his neighbour who had been rather noisy, but was sweet tempered and handled well.
RES: KEMP’S GR PR NATZKATZ IRISH-CREAM, 72 43NSQ, MN, 16.5.2007
A very handsome and elegant Asian of excellent type and style. The head formed a short, balanced wedge with rounded contours, width at the cheeks and a blunt finish to the muzzle. The ears were of medium size and set well apart and did continue the angle of the upper part of the face. They had a slight forward tilt. The brow was gently curved and he had a distinct nose break and virtually straight nose. Good chin depth. The eyes were a good size and spaced well apart. The top line was slightly straight but the lower line was nicely rounded. Good yellow tone. Very good head carriage. The body was slender and of medium length. It felt hard, muscular and lithe with slender legs, oval paws and a good tail to balance. The coat was of medium length, fine and close lying. It was smooth and glossy. Lovely caramel silver tone with a definite mantle of colour and the silver undercoat extending to between a third and a half of the hair shaft. I really liked this cat; he was in excellent condition and had a delightful temperament but was badly let down by grubby blankets. At this level of competition every tiny detail counts.
AV FOREIGN GRAND PREMIER, FEMALE
1 IGP MARSHALL’S GR PR LORRENTINO CRISTAL SPARKLE, 33A 14, FN, 15.7.2006
A sparkling white Devon with the most adorably wicked expression! Short wedge with good breadth of skull and high cheek bones. The brow curved back to a flat skull. Excellent ears, large, set low and wide apart. They really were very wide at the base and rounded at the tips. They were well covered and had little muffs. Strong muzzle and very good whisker break. Short nose with a really good stop. Good depth to the chin. Gorgeous eyes! They were large, oval and set wide apart. They sloped to the outer edges of the ears and were very expressive. Slender neck and excellent head carriage. Hard, muscular body with a broad chest. She stood high on slim legs with the hind legs slightly longer. Neat oval paws. Long, tapering tail that was well covered. Superb coat that was short, dense and soft. It was beautifully waved. She was prepared and presented to perfection, in excellent condition and had a wonderful temperament with such a confident attitude, I did not dare do anything but give her the award!
RES: LEITH’S GR PR RINTINABY RED HERRING, 23A, FN, 31.5.2005
A very attractive Sorrel Aby with excellent type and expression. She had a moderate wedge with gently rounded contours. Large ears were set well apart. They were cupped and had tiny tufts. Rounded muzzle. Slight nose break and good depth to the chin. Excellent eyes that were set well apart. They were almond shaped with an oriental setting. Excellent bright hazel tone. Lithe, muscular body of medium build with slender legs and oval paws. The tail was thick at the base and tapered to a rounded tip. Short, fine coat that was resilient in texture. Glossy and rich in colour, it was bright apricot at the base with well defined chocolate ticking. Attractive facial markings. Excellent condition and temperament. One strange feature I noted, when she was sitting in the pen, the fur on her spine rose like a ridgeback! She was not at all upset or angry, it just happened!
AC ORIENTAL GRAND PREMIER, MALE
1 IGP HOLDER’S GR PR MYLYNN MAGICNOIR, 62 36, MN, 9.12.2006
A stunning Oriental Longhair with such a proud, haughty expression, he should be called Mr Darcy, I am sure he would add something special to the shades of Pemberley !!! Long, well proportioned wedge with even lines to the muzzle. The ears were large, pricked and wide at the base. For me, I would like them marginally wider set to continue to lines of the wedge and form an equilateral triangle. Excellent oriental eyes that slanted towards the nose. They were set well apart and were a beautiful shade of green. Straight nose and good chin depth. Long, slender neck and excellent head carriage. Long, lithe, muscular body that felt solid and firm although he was the epitome of elegance. Long, slim legs and oval paws. The tail was long, tapering and balanced well. Semi-long coat that was fine and silky in texture. It was glossy and close lying along the back and longer down the sides. Plumed tail. Excellent smoke that was black with a silvery white base coat. Beautifully presented in sparkling condition, he had an excellent temperament too. So well balanced overall and with such “presence” he is the kind of cat this high award was meant for.
RES: LORD’S GR PR TENAJ PINK PANTHER, 29C, MN, 21.9.2005
A very handsome, confident and balanced Oriental Lilac who was unlucky to meet the winner. The wedge was a good length with even lines and a fine muzzle. The ears were large, wide at the base and pricked but again, I would have liked them set marginally wider to form an equilateral rather than an isosceles triangle. Excellent eyes of oriental shape and setting. They were set well apart and a good green colour. Straight profile and good chin. Elegant neck and excellent head carriage. Long, svelte body with a firm, muscular feel. Long, fine legs with oval paws. The tail was long, tapering and gave the overall balance. Very short, fine coat that was glossy and close-lying. Virtually sound and a frosty grey with that definite pinkish tone that is so attractive. Excellent condition and temperament.
AC ORIENTAL GRAND PREMIER, FEMALE
1 IGP/WH MARSTON’S CH & GR PR STYPERSON TIGER LILY, 29C, FN, 28.2.2002
A sweet female who looked so much better in the pen than out of it. I wonder if she was affected by the strong down draught as her coat was rather open although it felt rather woolly. I did mention the cool temperature in that part of the hall to the management and they came immediately to cover the top of the pens which helped tremendously. Even wedge with well set ears and expressive eyes that were a pale green. Good profile that was virtually straight and the chin had depth. Muscular body of medium length with good legs and tail. Soft, frosty lilac that was sound. Excellent condition and sweet temperament although a little shy. I did not award the Imperial as I felt she did not quite have that exceptional quality that certificate demands.
2 TASKER’S CH & GR PR BUNDOOK OHM MAID, 62 43N, FN, 25.11.2001
This Oriental Longhair had bags of personality and was really confident with the sweetest temperament. Medium wedge with even lines and a fine muzzle. The ears were reasonably large and wide at the base but set and held rather high. Excellent green eyes of oriental shape and set. They were very expressive. Virtually straight profile and very good chin depth. Long, fine body that was firm and muscular with reasonably fine legs. The tail was long and balanced well. Full ruff that was a little dry in texture. Otherwise the coat was fine, silky and close lying. Attractive caramel shading. Shown in excellent condition.
AC SELKIRK REX ADULT
1 IC + BOB HAZEL’S WYREWOOD CONQUEROR, 79S 15, M, 6.7.2007
Oh wow what a stunning cat! He really is of excellent type, substance and quality. Excellent head that is broad with rounded contours. Full cheeks. Medium ears that were broad at the base and set well apart in the contours of the head. The forehead was rounded with a gently curved top of head. Short, broad, straight nose with a slight downward slant. Good chin. Large eyes that were round and well opened. They were set well apart and he had a really pleasing, innocent expression. Short, thick neck. Cobby body of medium length that appeared rectangular and with a slight rise to the back legs. Excellent breadth to the shoulders and rump. Medium length legs and large, round paws. Thick tail of medium length with a rounded tip. Superb coat quality, it was of fairly uniform length over the body and was dense and plushy with excellent rexing right down to his toes. Beautifully presented in excellent condition, his coat was really glossy. He was such a sweetie and so confident. A real pleasure to judge.
AC SELKIRK REX NEUTER
1 IC + BOB CREATON & WALKER’S CRINKLES JACK FROST, 79L 15D, MN, 2.5.2007
Another Selkirk of outstanding type and quality! Excellent head with rounded contours and full cheeks. Medium ears, broad at the base were set well apart in the contours of the head. Curly furnishings. Short, broad nose with a downward slant and good depth to the chin. Wonderful eyes and expression, they were large, round and made him look really alert. Short, thick neck. Medium length, rectangular body that was muscular and solid with very good legs and tail. Excellent coat quality, it was thick, dense and very well waved. It stood away from the body well and had a soft, plush feel. Excellent, random waves that were really therapeutic to scrunch! He had lost his ruff, but that was seasonal. The tail waved well. Beautifully shown in sparkling condition and with a delightful friendly, confident temperament.
2 GOODWIN’S ILONA CHANCE, 79S 30F, MN, 18.8.2007
I really liked this Selkirk’s type and expression. He had a broad, rounded head with well set ears and full cheeks. I felt his muzzle could have been more defined. Very expressive eyes of excellent shape and set. Short, broad nose with a downward curve and firm chin. Short, thick neck and solid, muscular body of medium length. Very good legs and tail. Very good coat quality, it was dense and plushy with random waves. Shown in excellent condition. He was a little shy but sweet tempered.
3 GOODWIN’S ILONA SILVER SPARKLE, 29S 30S, MN, 18.8.2007
Litter brother of Chance who was of good type and expression. Broad head with ears set well into the contours. Lovely eyes and expression. Full cheeks and defined muzzle. Good profile. Cobby, muscular body with very good legs and tail. Medium length coat of very good texture. It was rather straight on the shoulders, back and tail but stood away from the body fairly well. Excellent condition. A little shy but he too had a sweet temperament.

2 DESOLLA’S CH BRUNNBACKEN’S SAMBESI (IMP), 23, M, 25.3.2007
Another very handsome and confident male of very good type and style. However, I felt his ears were set too wide, a little low and were not sufficiently cupped. They appeared more “oriental” in type rather than the cupped ears required of an Abyssinian. Very good profile and chin. Superb eyes for shape, colour, set and expression. Elegant neck. Excellent body and legs. Tail fined a little too much. Superb coat texture and very rich colour with well defined black ticking. Excellent condition and temperament.
USUAL ABYSSINIAN ADULT, FEMALE
1 CC SHAMMAS’ CH MIKKAR LITTLE MINX, 23, F, 20.12.2006
A very attractive female of very good type, style and balance overall. Moderate wedge with gently curving contours and large, well cupped ears set well apart. Good profile but the chin could be firmer. Excellent eyes of almond shape and oriental setting. Very expressive and a lovely rich amber tone. Firm, lithe body with elegant legs. Tail fined to a point. Short, fine coat that was slightly soft in texture but a beautifully rich colour and well ticked with black. Excellent condition and temperament.
USUAL ABYSSINIAN KITTEN
1 SMITH’S WAVETAIL GALADRIEL, 23, F, 3.6.2008
Promising kitten who was elegant and stylish with a lovely expression. Very good type head that formed a moderate wedge with gently curving contours. Large, well cupped ears with tiny tufts set well apart. Large almond eyes of oriental set and a brilliant amber tone developing well. Very good profile but I would like a little more depth of chin. Elegant neck. Muscular body with very good legs and tail. Short coat that was fine and close lying but with the correct, resilient texture. Rich apricot base and defined black ticking giving an overall rich, golden brown effect. Excellent condition and superb temperament.
AC SPHYNX ASSESSMENT
MERIT AWARDED TO NEWTON’S ADATESH SHANGRI LA84 22, F, 25.3.2008
An attractive and well balanced female of very good type and style. Good, moderate wedge with large ears set at a slight angle. They were wide open at the base and tapered to a rounded tip. The skull was slightly rounded with a flat plane in front of the ears. Prominent cheekbones and a good whisker break. Good profile and chin. Large eyes of excellent shape and expression. Medium length body with hard muscle tone. Broad, rounded chest and abdomen. Very good legs and toes. Long, slender tail that tapered well. Lovely feel to the skin that really felt like warm, soft chamois leather. Some fur on the nose. I loved the furrowed brow! Excellent condition and temperament, I felt she had real promise.
MERIT AWARDED TO WILLIAMS’ STREAKERS LINK LARKIN, 84 31, M, 5.0.2008
A very handsome and stylish male of excellent type and balance. Large ears, wide open at the base and set well apart at a slight angle. A very balanced wedge with a very good profile and chin. Expressive, lemon shaped eyes that slanted slightly towards the outer edges of the ears. Excellent firm, muscular body with a broad chest and good legs and toes. The tail was fine but could have been a fraction longer I felt. Lovely suede feeling to him and he had most attractive wrinkles. Excellent condition and temperament, a real character!
MERIT AWARDED TO DEAN’S AMAROGUE MORRIS MINOR, 84 31, MN, 3.11.2007
A really stunning Sphynx of superb style and type. Excellent head with large ears of excellent shape and set. Very good profile and chin. Wonderfully wicked expression in those lemon shaped eyes! Excellent body with broad, rounded chest and abdomen. Strong and muscular with a long neck. Excellent legs and feet. Long, prehensile tail, I feel he could swing from branches! Excellent feel to him – I felt it was soft and downy like a warm peach! Excellent temperament and condition. An outstanding example of this fascinating breed.
My thanks to Celia & her stalwart team for the invitation to judge once again, I hope the experiment of combining the shows was as successful as it appeared to be. I would like to thank Haden Boden who was coerced into stewarding on the day.
Foreign Imperial Grand Champion, Male;
IMP GR CH Not Awarded. 1st. SANDERSON’S GR CH CATOMINE FRISKY FANDANGO. 77. 16-06-06. Singapura, slightly tense lad, not keen on having his mouth looked at. His head could show a little more width across the eyes & little more blunted muzzle, good whisker break, the skull rounds but the nose rather straight no real evidence of the required slight stop, chin good, bite also when you eventually get the opportunity to see it. His ears are moderately large & well cupped, with a pricked if slightly high. Eyes are large emphasised by the line sepia round the rims, he holds them open & the colour a good green tone. Body has the typical moderate build & medium length, with slim legs, small dainty oval paws, quite slender tail which is short of the shoulder has a small irregularity at the extreme tip which at this level counts. Short fine close lying coat, the texture quite silky to the touch. Evenly ticked on quite a warm ivory coloured base, showing ticked band also well marked facial showing cheetah lines from the eyes, slight inner leg markings, lacks the knee smudges, well marked dark brown spurs on the back legs & also the tail tip. Salmon pink nose leather with darker coloured outline. Excellent condition, apart form getting quite irascible while trying to check his bite he was otherwise okay.
2nd TURNER-RUSELL’S GR CH WELLBRAND HAYMAKER. 72 43cq.
04-05-05. BCR Lilac Shaded Burmilla, lean lithe lad who for my preference requires a greater degree of masculinity. He has quite a short wedge of good width, well blunted appearance to his muzzle, rounds on the top line, good break chin & bite good. Ears set & well apart & having slight touch of forward tilt, rounded tips. Eyes though having well defined shape & pleasing expression could for preference have been a little larger, eau-de-nil shade of green. Body lean & rather slender on the hips particularly for his age, slender limbs, small neat paws, medium length tail with rounded tip slightly short of shoulder. Whilst I appreciate it is still winter & he is obviously a working boy, his coat was rather woolly & a also a little long & as result not the sleek, close lying effect I would have wished for. Showing his Burmese Colour Restriction due the deeper concentrated colour on his mask & points to some degree, quite good facial markings, more solid on the skullcap, his shading though heavy was even with slightly paler undercoat. The colour difficult to assess with certainty despite the very good lighting conditions, it appeared to be a rather dark questionable lilac, which deepened on the hocks & outside edges of the paws & tail tip, paler nose leather with deeper outline. His condition was sound, extremely fussy temperament, just lacking the extra that this certificate should convey.
Foreign Imperial Grand Champion, Female;
IMP GR CH SHEPHERD’S GR CH LORRENTINO LADYGUINEVERE. 33a 36. 27-07-04. Black Smoke Devon Rex, I obviously handled her early in the day when she was at her more demure stage, as later she got a little bite irate & less amenable. Ear set is amongst the best I have seen for some time. Excellent head type short wide wedge, high well defined cheeks, whisker break evident to the rounded muzzle, flat brow, good stop, deep chin, bite a little untidy & could possibly do with a dental to de-scale. Cracking ears, being not only large with excellent tufted tips & muffs also present at their base, but when she relaxes fully they are also wide at the base & set low which creates the no often seen jug handle effect which used to be so typical of Devon Rex. Lovely eyes large wide oval shape with touch of slant, green in colour, quite a mischievous expression. Excellent body being firm & well toned, medium length, the legs slim with oval paws, tail could be a little finer ideally quite well balanced length. Very good coat, well covered, slightly thinner on the neck, the lower back area initially looking a little flat but the wave was present albeit not so obviously, whereas the remainder the waves were much tighter & well rippled, including the legs & tail, the tummy very fine & downy, texture in the main was dense & soft though there are a few hasher guard hairs present, some stubbly whiskers & eyebrows. Very good black smoke combination. Excellent condition, lets you know when enough is enough.
RES IMP GR CH SELLMAN’S GR CH KINABALU SWEET SAPPHIRE. 72. 11-07-04. Bombay, an extremely attractive lady of excellent type, Burmese in a Black coat. Lovely short wide wedge, with good blunt muzzle, rounded head, well defined break, short nose, deep chin, bite level if a little untidy due to loose outer incisors. Medium size well placed ears, wide base & rounded tips with a slight hint of forward tilt. Eyes large with well defined shape enhanced by the depth of curve at the lower line, colour bright but green (perfectly acceptable, purely personal but I would have preferred golden), lovely expression. Body firm if marginally over her optimum weight, slender limbs, the paws neat & oval, her tail well shaped if a little short possibly exacerbated due to her waistline. Her coat is beautifully tight fitting & a very good shorter length, sleek & well prepared. Dense jet black with a wonderfully patent shine. Condition was splendid & her temperament very gentle & composed.
Burmese Grand Champion, Female; A lovely class with some really good exhibits going without awards, the lilacs were all excellent, lovely mature brown girl with small tail irregularity , another lovely chocolate if a little reserved, many thanks to the exhibitors.
GR CH WILSHAW’S CH ROSSIKHAN CENTREFOLD. 27c. 03-11-07. Lilac, oh! so very wicked expression which really did enhance her type. The baby of the class proving if you’ve got it age is not the criteria. Excellent head type with its short wide wedge & very good blunt muzzle, rounded top line, excellent break, good chin & level bite. Ears of larger medium size, with wide base, touch of forward tilt, rounded tips, complementing the head shape. Lovely eyes, super shape with deeply curved lower line, with the slanted top enhancing the shape, chartreuse in colour, such a superior wicked expression. Still quite dainty but not out of keeping with her young age & that said was beautifully firm & weighty in relation to her size, medium length slim legs & small oval paws, fine well shaped tail, a little short of shoulder & rounded tip. Beautifully prepared coat, very sleek & close lying, very good shorter length, satin like finish. Colour has a good softer shade of even lilac with the required dove grey tone. Super condition, though pretending to be something of madam, having the attitude that her looks give her the right to exercise an opinion, but it did make her look the part.
.
RES GR CH WILSHAW’S CH ROSSIKHAN CUPCAKE. 27b. 16-08-07. Chocolate, another very young girl form the same stable & with a great deal of potential for higher things. Excellent head, shorter length wide wedge & good blunt appearance to the muzzle, top line rounding well in both directions, excellent break, short nose, firm chin, level bite. Slight tilt to the ears which are larger medium size, with good wide base & rounded tips. Another girl with really lovely eyes, large in size & such a beautifully defined shape, chartreuse in colour, has a lovely expression which is a combination of naughty yet quizzical. Body still again quite petite, yet firm & possessing excellent weight, slim legs, petite paws, tail short of shoulder & quite fine but proportionate to the body. Really excellent coat, short & tight fitting, beautiful sleek sheen, satin like texture. Most attractive warm chocolate, still with a little contrast on the mask & ears. Condition was really excellent & she has quite a charming temperament, delightful.

Burmese Grand Premier, Male;
GR PR PLAW’S CH & PR RAINSONG XABI ALONSO. 27. 07-03-07. Brown, this lad was looking extremely mature & well balanced. He has short, wide blunt wedge, top rounding well in both directions, break excellent , firm chin & level bite. Well spaced ears to complement the head lines, tilted slightly forward & rounded on the tips. His eyes have very good shape, quite a good larger size, more leaning to the green phase of chartreuse but with a more yellow tone when you look at the colour from above. Strong very muscular hard body, well shaped legs & oval paws, tail proportionate & well balanced, rounded tip. Beautifully prepared satiny coat, laying extremely close & very good shorter length. Rich deep brown with a good degree of warmth to it, lovely glossy shine to the surface. His condition was immaculate, gave a grumble of discontent about being removed form his pen, but he was otherwise well behaved.
RES GR SIMPSON’S PAPAGENA XANDER. 27h. 09-09-07. Chocolate, young lad showing excellent type & maturity for his young age. Strong masculine head, with his with his shorter length wide wedge, blunt appearance to the muzzle, lovely rounded top, good break, slight bump on the nose & touch of roll off at its tip, chin & bite both good. Ears of medium size, with hint of forward tilt, round on the tips, well set. Lovely shape t the eyes with deeply curved lower line, the colour certainly have a lustrous tone which is very strong & leaning to amber, quite striking, excellent expression. Body is showing a very good degree of maturity, well muscled, well proportioned legs, oval paws, medium thickness to the tail, rounded tip a little short of shoulder. Short, close lying coat, sleek & well prepared, satin like texture. Warm chocolate tone still in the process of evening out fully, slight amount of contrast to the mask, ears & tail but nothing excessive & perfectly in keeping with his age. Another lad who was a bit grumpy but not implying difficult, really excellent condition.
Burmese Grand Premier, Female;
GR PR BLAKE’S CH & PR HOBBERDY HOOPCYDAISY. 27h. 04-02-06. Chocolate Tortie, well developed & mature, initially this lady looked quite plain, but once she relaxed fully the difference was marked. Lovely width to the short wedge, excellent blunt muzzle, well rounded top line, very good break, has slight rise on the nose & drop off at its tip, chin could perhaps be a little deeper, bite good. Rounded tip to the medium sized ears, wide base & slight amount of forward tilt. Eyes large & well defined shape, well curved line to the lower rim, with gentle slant form the top, pale chartreuse with hint of yellow tone evident. Firm if possibly a little on the plumper side, but who am I to make comments about a lady’s weight, slim legs, neat paws, tail broader at the base, a little short of the shoulder & slightly rounded tip. Her coat has a very satiny texture, I would have preferred it a little shorter but that said it was close lying & well prepared. Pleasing warm pale chocolate which was showing shades of red, slight amount of deepening of the colour to the mask. Condition was excellent, a very gentle & composed lady.
RES GR PR TEGG’S GR CH & PR MINOTOSA PANDORA. 27e. 17-07-03. Brown Tortie, I really like this mature lady & she looked to be my winner (& nearly was). Very pleasing head type with its short wide wedge, blunt muzzle, top rounding well in both directions, break well evident, short nose, good chin & level bite. Well placed ears, round on the tips, wide base, very good medium size. Would have looked much better had she opened her eyes wider to give better definition t their shape the colour showing more evidence of the greener spectrum of chartreuse. Body was beautifully firm with slim legs, small oval paws, tail well shaped & with rounded tip. Her coat was beautifully close lying again marginally longer than I would have preferred, super satin like finish. Deep intense brown with varying shades of red present, such a very well cared for polished sheen. Her condition was splendid & her temperament miraculously transformed, quite composed.
British Chocolate, Male;
IC & BOB Not Awarded. 1st FRASER-SMITH’S ALIDIX SENORE DU DU.
08-08-06. This lad should be in his prime so it was rather disappointing with regard to his type & stature that he was not only showing a greater degree of maturity but also masculinity. Head basically okay but required a little more everywhere, i.e. a little more rounded, a little more fullness etc,. Rounded brow, chin & bite both okay. Ears set well, could be marginally smaller ideally. Well open eyes, very well rounded & an excellent colour of bright orange. Body rather small & fine boned, lacking the depth & breadth that one expects of a male ‘Brit’, legs lack substance, smaller round paws, tail very thin. His coat is uneven & lacks in density being a softer almost woolly texture, albeit the actual length is good. His colour though dark chocolate was sound & even. His actual physical condition was sound & he has lovely friendly outgoing nature.
British Chocolate Kitten;
BOB Not Awarded. MELLHUISH’S COMERFORD CHICAGO. 15-05-08. A chocolate girl of excellent type, but rather small for almost 8 months & still some pattern to clear, combined with something of grumpy (to be polite) nature for one so young were my reasons for withholding the BOB. Apple rounded head shape, full cheeks, excellent muzzle, rounded brow, chin & bite both good. Ears relatively small & as result quite neat, tidy appearance, well set. Eyes good larger size, well open round shape, the colour still not fully settled, golden orange tone still with a slight hint of greenish inner rim. Body small but the proportions correct in relation to her size, good legs & paws, well balanced tail. Coat has quite a good shorter length, could be slightly denser & still typically soft but not out of keeping with her age. Her colour though dark slightly bitter chocolate & whilst not completely sound is far better than most, she does have quite a degree of brindling on her neck & throat which highlights the underlying pattern barring of necklets etc,. Condition was excellent but madam was in one foul mood & not a happy bunny at all.

X2nd NEWTON’S ADATESH SHANGRI –LA. 84 22. 25-03-08. Black Tortie & White Sphynx, my what a beautifully well grown & mature looking young lady, at only just over 9 months she is showing excellent development. Her head though perhaps marginally long in relation to its width was nevertheless displaying otherwise very good type, slight muzzle indent beneath the well defined cheek line, profile has required gentle break at the eye line, adequate chin, good bite, bit of tarnish on her teeth. Ears large wide base, the set very good being slightly angular, rounded on the tips. Lovely eyes which are large & the required lemon shape with a slight slant upwards, green in colour. She has a very elegant neckline, with superb body tone, it is hard & well muscled, good breadth to her chest, long slender legs, long toes, with very well padded paws, the tail long & fine, well proportioned to the body. Body is covered in very short peachy down, with a little more furnishing on the nose & ears, some wrinkling on the brow. Good combination of colour on the skin showing both black & red with small amount of white present on her paws. Her condition was absolutely superb, with an excellent degree of confidence to display herself well. Sphynx may well not be to everyone’s taste but if they are out of condition it will show.

X3rd CROFT’S SILVERSMOKE POCAHONTAS. 73 41b. 15-05-07. Chocolate Classic Ocicat, this girls colour was absolutely superb. Pattern a little more marbled than Classic to be critical, type wise a very good example of an Ocicat.
AC Oriental Adult, Not Bred by the Exhibitor;
1st TARBOX’S ADATESH TUAN THEBLUESQUAD. 37a. 09-03-08. Blue, a very pleasing & stylish young girl for hr very young age. Virtually even lines to the well proportioned, wedge, very good profile, adequate chin, bite a little over. Ears large & well set when she is relaxed in her pen but with a tendency to prick when out, wide flare to their base. Very good green to the eye colour, the shape & setting typically oriental. Elegant neckline, lithe young lady still quite dainty, yet possessing very good length, slender legs, dainty paws, very good fine whiptail. Close lying coat, well prepared, marginally on the longer side but not excessively. Even in colour & relatively sound, the colour a slightly darker mid blue tone, almost free of tipping. Her condition & temperament both excellent.
2nd DAVIDGE-EVANS’S SATIVA BLACK DIAMOND. 37. 04-10-07. Black, comes out of her pen looking terrified which has a tendency to make her type problem appear worse than is probably the case. Head longer length but narrow wedge, some pinch to the finer muzzle, profile has a slight dip, chin could be a little deeper, bite a little over. Ears are quite large requiring more width & flare to the base, tendency to prick a little high on occasion. Body long & lithe, long slim legs, very dainty paws, good length fine whiptail but with small irregularity at its tip. Coat on the longer side, but very leek & laying close. Very black, sound throughout, beautiful glossy sheen. Excellent presentation & condition, could look better if she were to relax (but that still would not negate the tail defect).
AC Oriental Kitten, Female;
1st RICE’S SEIDO SULTRESS OFSWING. 37. 13-04-08. Black, stylish young miss of very good type. Very good length wedge, slight muzzle pinch, profile very good, chin adequate bite a little untidy. Ears are very well set & have wide base to complement the head, very good larger size. Eyes have very good oriental shape & slant, the eye colour could have a little more depth & intensity to the green tone, slightly apprehensive expression. Good length of neck, the body is lithe & well toned, an elegant young lady, slender limbs, small neat paws, good fine whip. Not perhaps the shortest of coats but it was very close & lying & possessed excellent texture with a sleek well cared for look about it. Excellent black, which was sound with a very glossy surface sheen. Condition & presentation were both excellent, just needs to relax a little to improve her chances.
End of Report
Many thanks to Celia Leighton and her team for the invitation to judge at the 34th anniversary of this well run show, and also for their kind hospitality. It was my pleasure to accept and I would like to thank all the exhibitors for the wonderful selection of Burmese I was able to assess. It is a privilege to be able to handle so many excellent examples of this unique breed.
Brown Burmese Kitten Male (3 kittens present)
1st & BOB: Moore’s Dulcamara Polydorus (27 M 4/7/08) Well-grown, promising boy with an alert, masculine appearance. Gently rounded top of head with feint frownlines between large, well spaced ears of correct shape and desired forward tilt. Short wide wedge with strong blunt muzzle. Lustrous yellow chartreuse eyes of adequate size: widely spaced and with correct topline sloping towards his nose and well rounded lower line displaying a true Burmese expression. In profile brow is rounded and skull has good depth. Distinct break with fractional rounding to his nose at this stage in development. Chin of reasonable depth is almost level. Acceptable bite. Very firm elegant body with strong limbs and huge oval paws. Tail of correct shape with paintbrush tip balances this boy’s large frame. Clear, rich seal brown coat with satin like appearance gleams with health and is short and very close lying. This big, friendly lad handled well for assessment and purred all the time.
2: Wrigglesworth’s Sykris Akhenaten (27 M 3/7/08) Medium size weighty boy of elegant appearance. Gently rounded top of head between large well spaced ears of correct shape and with slight forward tilt in profile. Short wedge, with endearing chewed whiskers, shows a teething pinch at this stage. Expressive lustrous chartreuse eyes are widely spaced and of adequate size. He tended to open them very wide which made them appear somewhat rounded. (later in the day when the hall was considerably warmer I noticed he was more relaxed and his eyes are correctly shaped with the topline slanting towards the nose and a well rounded lower line). In profile brow is a trifle flat and skull is of reasonable depth. Distinct break with slight bump to nose and roll off to leather at this young age. Bite is level, and chin of medium depth is almost level. Firm, elegant body and limbs, and large, neat oval paws. Tail is well shaped and a little short to balance his body. Rich clear seal brown coat has a superb sheen and is short, silky and very close lying. He has a few noticeable white hairs on his bikini line at present. This promising young lad was a little tense at first but friendly and energetic out of his pen. He was unlucky to meet the boy above on the day.
3: Ward’s Coomakista Bazille (27 M 2/8/08) Very wriggly little lad of almost five months: of good size and weight. Gently rounded top of head with widely spaced medium sized ears of correct shape and with forward tilt in profile. Blunt wide wedge. Chartreuse colour still developing in his eyes which could be larger and more widely spaced for perfection. In profile fair rounding to brow and skull has good depth. Gentle nose break and nose shows slight bump at this stage of development. Rather shallow chin is virtually level. Bite is acceptable. Body has a firm feel and limbs are elegant with large oval paws. Tail is a trifle thick at the base at this stage but balances his body with ease. Coat colour still kittenish with plenty of time for development. At present it is considerably lighter towards the roots and could be softer in texture. On the day he had a fairly large area of damaged coat on his left side – perhaps due to over-enthusiastic grooming from his mother or a feline companion? He is a very friendly boy who was a pleasure to handle and he purred constantly .
Brown Burmese Kitten Female (4 kittens present)
1: Moore’s Dulcamara Annabelinda (27 F 24/7/08) Very promising, alert well grown young girl. Gently rounded top of head with a profusion of endearing frownlines. Well placed, correctly shaped, well proportioned ears showing desired forward tilt in profile. Short, wide very blunt wedge. Widely spaced large lustrous yellow chartreuse eyes displaying typical Burmese expression. Rounded brow and reasonable depth of skull. Distinct break with straight nose of acceptable length and shallow level chin. Firm elegant body and limbs with neat oval paws. Well shaped tail just balances. Clear coat of rich seal brown is well developed, short, close lying and with a gleaming satiny sheen. This lovely girl has a super friendly nature and positively enjoyed being handled and assessed and showed great interest in all the goings on in the hall.
2: Colin’s Aureus Sweet Juliet (27 F 30/9/08) Adorable, aptly named little girl of just over fourteen weeks and displaying a very promising Burmese expression. Gently rounded top of head with plenty of frownlines. Dainty well spaced ears of correct shape. Short blunt wedge. Lustrous expressive muddy chartreuse eyes are large and widely spaced and correctly shaped. In profile brow is well rounded and and skull is of very good depth. Distinct break with virtually straight nose and reasonably deep level chin. Level bite. Kittenish body already has an elegant feel with fine limbs and neat oval paws. Well shaped tail balances her body. Coat is silky and a trifle long at this tender age: it lies well and is clear with colour still developing. She was a little apprehensive at first which I think was due to an icy blast from a ceiling mounted air duct. Her shyness soon evaporated to great friendliness and she was easy to handle and assess. She shows great promise at this early stage.
3: Turner-Russell’s Wellbrand Pomegranitini (27 F 5/9/08) Rather shy young girl of good size and weight for her four months. Gently rounded top of head between well spaced, large, correctly shaped ears. Short wedge shows a teething pinch at this early stage. Brow has fair rounding and skull is of good depth. Lustrous yellow chartreuse eyes of adequate size are well spaced and correctly shaped displaying excellent Burmese expression. Distinct break with virtually straight nose and chin of reasonable depth is almost level. Bite is level. Firm elegant body with well shaped slender limbs and neat oval paws. Tail, which balances her body, is a little fine at present. Clear seal brown coat is silky in texture and very close lying with colour still developing. She was very tense (due I’m sure to the coldness of the hall and icy blast from the ceiling duct) and grumbled when removed from her pen. She settled well after a little conversation and cuddle and is basically friendly and understandably in awe of the show scene at this age.
4: Giles’ Raweke Truly Scrumptious (27 F 4/10/08) Dear little girl of just fourteen weeks on the day. Gently rounded top of head with medium size, correctly shaped, well placed ears with slight forward tilt in profile. Short wedge with teething pinch in evidence at this tender age. Lustrous muddy chartreuse eyes are widely spaced and correctly shaped with topline sloping towards her nose and well rounded lower line. In profile brow is a little flat at this stage. Skull has good depth. Acceptable break with virtually straight nose and slightly receding chin. Level bite. Body has a naturally kittenish feel but already displays an elegance. Dainty limbs and oval paws and tail of excellent length which more than balances her body at present. Clear coat is still pale and developing and has a silky texture, is short and lies well. Very friendly happy little girl who was keenly interested in all the goings on and was easy to handle and assess.
(one kitten present)
1: Giles’ Raweke Something Blue (27g F 14/4/08)
Well-grown blue tortie girl of excellent weight and mature appearance. Rounded top of head with well spaced medium size ears of correct shape. Short blunt wedge and, in profile, well rounded brow and deep skull. Large expressive eyes are well shaped and set. Lower line could be a little more rounded for perfection. Fair nose break with straight nose and slightly receding chin of reasonable depth. Level bite. Elegant body and limbs and neat oval paws. Well shaped tail is a little short to balance. Excellent silky texture to clear coat which lies very close to her body and is delicately mingled shades of blue and cream. A quiet, serious girl who was very friendly and a pleasure to handle.
Any Colour Burmese Neuter Male (2 cats present)
1: Stephens’ Gr.Pr.Millgill Pandemonium (27 MN 12/7/04) Impressive, large, proportionate well muscled and weighty brown lad in superb condition. Rounded top of head between well placed ears of correct size and shape with forward tilt in profile. Very short wedge. Large, well shaped pale chartreuse eyes of correct shape and displaying a true Burmese expression. In profile, well rounded brow and very good depth of skull. Defined break with straight nose and deep, level chin. Bite is level. Very well muscled body with rounded chest and strong limbs with oval paws. Well shaped tail balances his body. Coat is a clear, rich seal brown and close lying with a wonderful satiny sheen. This lovely, balanced boy was extremely amiable and purred very loudly when handled.
2: Quincey’s Pr. Mayrling Red Rum (27D MN 17/11/07) Beautiful red boy of fourteen months who was very tense and had no wish to be handled and told me precisely how he felt about meeting me. After several attempts to talk him round I felt it best to believe him, and in fact I feel he was deterred by the strong odour of menthol associated with my throat pastilles. He is mature in appearance and in excellent condition. His top of head is rounded and his medium size ears of correct shape are widely spaced. Short blunt wedge. Widely spaced yellow chartreuse eyes of correct shape and with wonderful Burmese expression. Rounded brow and deep skull. Well defined break with straight nose and virtually level chin of fair depth. Rich, close lying tangerine coat. An impressive lad in all respects and one who commands respect.

Well shaped tail balances her body. Soft blue coat is clear and silky, short and close lying. She has wonderful silvering on all her rounded areas. A friendly young lady who is a real show-girl, loves to be handled and appreciates all the attention given to her.
2: Stephens’ Gr.Ch.&Pr. Millgill Mimicry (27c FN 3/5/01) Lilac lady of almost eight years and in excellent condition. Rounded top of head with well placed medium size ears of correct shape with forward tilt when viewed in profile. Very short blunt wedge. Pale chartreuse eyes are large and well shaped and retain their lustrous appearance and unique Burmese expression. In profile brow is a trifle flat and skull has good depth. Well defined break with straight nose and deep chin which recedes slightly. Bite is level. A weighty proportionate girl with well rounded chest, elegant limbs and neat oval paws. Tail balances. Clear silky coat is somewhat dark in tone and with a blueish tinge in the artificial hall lighting. Slightly open on the day, due I imagine to the low temperature. She was very happy to be cuddled and was more than happy to be assessed. A real sweetie.
Any Colour Burmese Adult (one cat present)
