Giving Cats Care Forever!
About the GCCF
The Governing Council of the Cat Fancy offers information, advice and expertise to help you breed, own or choose the right cat for your circumstances and lifestyle.
Whether you are searching for...

The cutest of kittens ...

Or the poshest of pedigrees...
The GCCF is there to help you!
Choosing and caring for your cat..
The Governing Council of the Cat Fancy is the premier registration body for breeding and showing pedigree cats in the UK. The health, welfare and wellbeing of all cats is our mission and we are there to advise, educate and support all cat owners whether they have a highly titled pedigree cat or a humble moggie.
Finding a cat or kitten
We have more than 150 member clubs to cover all breeds of cats as well as our household pets whether a moggie or pet pedigree; a list of the GCCF member clubs can be found here. By contacting one of our clubs you can find out about the character of the breed you are interested in owning and how it will fit with your lifestyle. We will help you to find the perfect cat for you!
Have you considered an older cat?
Some people prefer to own an older cat rather than a playful young kitten that requires training. If this idea appeals to you, then find whether your local club has a Welfare or Rescue scheme. The necessity for rehoming a cat may be because of a marriage break-up; someone moving to a new home unsuitable for cats or where pets are not allowed; perhaps a change in family circumstances or, thankfully very rarely, because the cat is not cared for.

Breeding from your cat...
As the number one registration body for pedigree cats in the UK, the GCCF is committed to the breeding of healthy pedigree cats. Its policy is to recognise only those breeds that are able to live a happy, healthy and contented life; able to enjoy normal cat behaviour and produce healthy kittens. The GCCF has published its own Breeding Policy which can be read or downloaded online from our website here.
The GCCF actively promotes genetic and other relevant testing for health etc. It is also there to advise and guide our breeders on best breeding practice. The health, welfare and wellbeing of all cats must be of paramount importance in any GCCF breeding programme.

Showing your cat ...
There will be a GCCF show somewhere in the UK on most weekends of the year! A complete show list is available here.
If you have never shown a cat before, it would be a good idea to go along and visit a few shows first. If your cat enjoys being shown, this is a great hobby! The GCCF caters for all types of cats and coats, so you can enjoy exhibiting whether you own a perfect pedigree or a humble household pet. All can compete, with the lucky winners able to gain impressive titles!
Our Young Exhibitors' Scheme
With an eye to the future, the GCCF has launched a Young Exhibitor's Scheme (YES!) to attract, inspire and engage young people from the age of eight to sixteen, through the enjoyment of owning and showing cats.
Our YES! Programme focuses upon responsible cat ownership and exhibition. Young exhibitors are encouraged via a series of structured activities, learning strategies and personal involvement. Full information and application forms can be found at www.gccf-yes.co.uk .
