Can the stud owner impose any restrictions?
The stud service is between the stud owner and the breeder. We can include stud owner restrictions in the advert text, as long as the restrictions do not breach GCCF Rules.
We are simply providing the information. The GCCF are not a party to any agreements made between the stud owner and the breeder, and we will not be involved in any disputes that may arise.
Additionally, it is important to note that just because a stud is advertised, this does not mean he is available to anyone who inquires. Stud owners are free to refuse and/or specify contract terms that place restrictions, provided that these restrictions do not breach GCCF Rules.
What paperwork should I expect to receive from the stud owner?
Per GCCF Rule 3d, the stud owner must provide you with a fully completed mating certificate upon the collection of your queen. You may also receive a copy of the stud’s pedigree, but this is not mandatory.
Does the stud need to be a Champion?
No. There are many qualities in a stud that may compliment a female without necessarily adhering to the SOP. Breed diversity has many positives and ultimately leads to healthier cats.
Do Breeder Scheme members receive a discount for advertising on the Stud Book?
Yes, Breeder Scheme members receive a 60% discount on Stud Book adverts! Each advert is £10 for scheme members, compared to £25 for non-scheme members.
Is there a discount for multiple listings?
Yes! The first listing for the year costs £25, and subsequent listings in the same year are then £10 each.
Can I submit an advert before the 1st September or after the 31st December?
No, the window for accepting applications to the Stud Book is from September 1st to December 31st each year. Applications received outside of this window will not be accepted or will be carried over until the next application window opens.
Do owners need to provide proof of vaccinations and FeLV/FIV testing?
Yes, upon applying to the Stud Book you will be required to provide proof of up-to-date vaccinations, and clear results for FeLV and FIV testing completed in the previous 12 months.
What do I do if I have concerns with an advert/stud/stud owner listed on the Stud Book?
Stud owners are expected to adhere to responsible breeding practices. This includes proper care for the well-being of the cat, adherence to ethical breeding standards, and compliance with relevant animal welfare laws and regulations. Complaints of this nature will be referred to the Investigations Committee for consideration of breaches of Byelaws 12.1b and 12.1d.
These byelaws relate to welfare and discreditable conduct, and are the cornerstones of the GCCF.
If you believe the stud owner is in breach of any criteria for the Stud Book, please contact the GCCF Office to explain your concerns and give any evidence you may have. This also applies for any breaches of GCCF Rules or Byelaws.
Do I need to be a member of a GCCF affiliated cat club to apply?
No, you do not need to be a member of a GCCF affiliated cat club to advertise on the Stud Book.
Can I remove my listing at any time?
Yes, you need only ask us to remove your listing. Please be aware that you will not be able to relist the advert until the next subscription window.
