The Governing Council of the Cat Fancy condemns the unprovoked invasion of Ukraine by the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.
We are deeply saddened by the reports we see daily of people and their beloved pets displaced, injured and killed by these hostilities.
At an emergency meeting of the GCCF Board of Directors on Thursday 3rd March, it was unanimously agreed to make an immediate donation to assist with the rescue work being undertaken in Poland, and this has been given, received and acknowledged with thanks.
Of course, the assistance offered by charities and the generous people of the countries surrounding Ukraine will continue to be needed. As a result, the GCCF Board have today agreed that a Fundraising Appeal will be launched very shortly, and as soon as arrangements are in place, we will ask for your support to enable us to continue helping the people and pets of Ukraine.
In view of the current circumstances, GCCF strongly advises all GCCF breeders not to consider purchasing kittens from breeders based in the Russian Federation at the present time, because of the logistical and financial issues that will arise.
The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) advises against all travel to the whole of Russia due to the lack of available flight options to return to the UK, and the increased volatility in the Russian economy. As a result GCCF Judges are requested not to accept judging engagements at any show in the Russian Federation for the foreseeable future.
Our thoughts are with all those affected by these tragic circumstances, and we hope and pray for a speedy resolution.
Chairman and Board Directors of GCCF
