At its meeting on the 23rd April 2021 the GCCF Board discussed when shows could begin once again. After consideration of the most recent medical and veterinary advice it was agreed that no definite date could yet be set. This decision was taken due to the continuing uncertainty of the current situation regarding the Covid-19 pandemic, and with thought for the health and safety of all judges, show teams, venue staff, exhibitors, trade stand holders, visitors and cats. However, it is also appreciated that show managers could face financial difficulties with fewer entries and increased costs.
There is currently a prediction of a third wave of infections in the summer (NERVTAG), and newly reported veterinary information on the transmission of Covid-19 from humans to cats. Also, the possibility had to be considered of the virus spreading amongst cats in a poorly ventilated hall, especially as there is no certainty of the effectiveness against Covid of the disinfectants currently used at shows.
It is understood that some are very anxious to enjoy a show day once again, and the Board is committed to a monthly review of the situation. The next will take place at the meeting at the end of May when another assessment of the most recent information will be carried out. It was agreed the earliest date to be considered then will be 1st September 2021, but once again it will be the available health predictions (human and feline) that will have priority in determining if this is possible.
The Board will be meeting monthly and will continue to keep this under review taking into account all the latest government guidelines.
When shows are able to recommence, Show organisers/Clubs must take full responsibility for complying with all health and safety requirements in force in their part of the UK. There will be no recompense from GCCF if a show is arranged and then has to be cancelled. The Club will have to bear any financial loss in full.
No date changes for the 2021/2022 show season will be permissible.
