There is something so special about naming a cat that it has become an art form. With breeders and owners drawing inspiration from even the littlest of things such as Pokémon, pasta and puns. The GCCF Office Team have seen their fair share of weird and wonderful names, so we thought we would share some of them with you!
These include names we have seen for GCCF registered cats and imported cats, that have stuck with us over the years.
Pedigree names can be wildly adventurous just like the cats they belong too, but we also see patterns and trends of popular names.
According to the office, the most common names are:
Names can be inspired by anything, and with so much choice, we know it can be hard to pick just one. The GCCF office love to pick names, in fact, it’s one of their favourite things to do! Just give them a theme or idea and they will run with it.
Here are just a few:
So what are the rules for naming a cat? Well, you have 30 characters including spaces, punctuation and the prefix for a cat name. Only names such as colours and Human titles can be repeated; no naughty words, numbers or accents and no feline titles. (Click here to see the full rules). Other than those rules you have free reign to be as unique and creative as you would like.
It’s important to know that cat names cannot be changed once a cat has been bred and/or shown but you can change a pet name whenever you would like and this appears in brackets next to the registered name.
You have heard from us, now we want to hear from you! What names do you like? Are you a fan of the traditional or outlandish? What themes have you done? Reach out on our socials and get involved, we may even crown a winner for office favourite.
