LUCI
Owned by John & Kath Fairbanks
Can you tell us a little about who you are and your Cat Fancy journey?
Myself and my husband, John, have owned Persians since 2000.
Safe to say our very first Persian who was bought as a pet, a cream and white, was particularly laid back and we thought we’d give showing a try.
After a couple of shows and 2 BOV Neuter wins, we were thoroughly enjoying our newfound hobby and making new friends.
We bred for 10 years, bred a couple of Imperial GRs and had BIS wins but decided breeding wasn’t for us. So we then bought a show neuter, Jemineve Miss Grace, from Lisa Rock. Gracie won BOV kitten at the Supreme 2016.
We then added to our Persians with Jemineve Spirit in the Sky, who went on to be IGR PR and then we added again with a cat who most GCCF judges got to know and she achieved Supreme BOV Section 1 2018 and 2019 and went on to continue her show career and achieved OLY Gold. Her name was UKOGIGRCH Jemineve Spark of Magic, Queen Bee to all who knew her.
Have you entered the Supreme Show before? If so, how did you get on?
I have entered the Supreme before. In 2016 I won BOV Persian kitten with Jemineve Miss Grace, a gorgeous tortie and white. I went again in 2018 with another tortie & white, Jemineve Spark of Magic, who was BOV Section 1 Adult and reserve Supreme Adult. Again in 2019, the same cat was awarded BOV Section 1.
This year we hit the Jackpot with our gorgeous Luci and safe to say we’re still floating on cloud 9.
Can you tell us all about your wonderful Supreme winning cat please and what they won?
hen came the little Legend Luci also from Jemineve who we instantly fell in love with. He was born in Italy, so he had to have a fitting name Luci.
He is an amazing cat to live with, and we often think he would have suited the name ‘Herbie’ because he is such a lovebug. He’s often referred to as “meet and greet ” because of his lovable character – he wants to make friends with all who visit.
He began his show journey in pedigree Section 1 and was awarded BOV as a kitten and an adult and even achieved Imperial. We soon heard rumbles about the Persian SOP being changed about minimum white on faces in Tabbies sadly and I thought “you know what, Luci loves everyone, enjoys a cuddle and he’s everything you’d want in a pet” and with huge encouragement from some wonderful friends we registered him as a Household pet and he’s just amazed us. He has won Best Pedigree Pet COTY after several BIS wins.
What advice would you give to someone who’s starting and thinking about showing their cat? What tips would you give them?
Wear decent comfy shoes, and comfortable clothes. Plan your show drapes but include a white show blanket for the show rings. Enter and enjoy, take money because you will be so tempted to spend and spoil your cat!
Can you describe the Supreme for someone who’s never been?
The Supreme is an exciting show and it gives you a chance to decorate your pen with pretty drapes to compliment your cats colouring and there is a theme!
How did it feel to win the Supreme 2025?
Never in my dreams did I expect Luci to be the Showman he was at the Supreme, he enjoyed a fuss from David Baddiel and was the perfect Showman on the Supreme stage wowing both the crowds and the judges.
My heart stopped momentarily when he was announced as being Supreme Best Pedigree Pet Adult 2025 and then again when he was announced as Supreme Household Pet Exhibit 2025.
I’m still on cloud 9 so is his dad, John!
