A Story Written by Abigail & Beth
A surprise visitor brightened up our office recently – a stray kitten in need of a little love. This is the story of Jeanie, the stray kitten, rescued by the GCCF office team, whose story will warm your heart!
Finding Jeanie
Jeanie’s story began in the garden of a kind-hearted woman named Jean, who noticed the kitten lingering for days. Concerned for her well-being, Jean provided food and took her to a vet, where it was confirmed that the kitten was young, unchipped, and without any signs of an owner. Despite placing a paper collar with a contact number, no one stepped forward to claim her. With temperatures dropping, Jean’s concern grew, but local rescues and vets were unable to take the kitten in. As a last resort, Jean called GCCF for help.
The call was answered by Abigail, a member of the GCCF office team, who explored every possible option to locate the kitten’s owner or find a temporary home. After exhausting all options, Abigail decided to foster the kitten herself to ensure her safety. She gathered supplies and met Jean to collect the kitten, learning all the details of her care. The kitten was a young, all-black female, about 6-9 months old, thin but affectionate, and due to her affection, we believed she was likely someone’s lost pet. The GCCF team immediately began spreading the word through social media and local vets, hoping to reunite her with her family.
Life at GCCF
As the days passed, the kitten, now affectionately named Jeanie after her rescuer, started to thrive under Abigail’s care. Her playful and cuddly personality quickly won over the entire office, and she became an honorary GCCF staff member, taking her napping duties on keyboards very seriously. Despite a brief scare when she vomited remnants of tinfoil and bin bags—evidence of her struggle to survive—Jeanie recovered swiftly and resumed her playful antics.
However, despite the team’s relentless efforts, no one came forward to claim her. It became clear that Jeanie needed a forever home, and that’s when Beth, another member of the GCCF office team, introduced her mom, Jo, to the kitten over Facetime. Jo, living in Wolverhampton, instantly fell in love with Jeanie and agreed to adopt her, despite the logistical challenge of being over two and a half hours away
A New Beginning
On Friday, March 28th 2025, Jeanie embarked on an exciting new chapter of her life as she settled into her cat carrier, ready for the journey to her new home. There was a mix of anticipation and excitement, unsure of how she would handle the drive. But true to her adventurous nature, Jeanie took it all in stride, eagerly watching the passing cars and observing everything around her. It’s safe to say, this nosey girl took the trip like a true pro!
Upon arrival, Jeanie stepped out into her new home, and captured the heart of her new owner even more than expected – but it was clear that the feeling was mutual and Jeanie felt Instantly at home with Jo, whilst also sniffing around the room, taking in the smells of her new brother and sister, Marlo & Lucy.
A trip to the vets was crucial, and it didn’t take long for her to win over the staff. Her confident attitude and charming personality had the vet smitten from the start. After a thorough health check, the vet confirmed she was around 6 months old, and completely healthy – she was given her first vaccinations. However, she was still too small for a microchip.
Whilst we await Jeanie’s full course of vaccines, microchipping and neutering, one thing is clear: her confidence continues to grow. True to her mischievous nature, she’s already mastered playing fetch, sitting on command, and of course, taking cosy naps on top of Jo—because, after all, what’s better than using a head as a pillow?
The Future is Bright
The team couldn’t be prouder of Jeanie and are absolutely thrilled with how her journey has unfolded – it could have ended so differently. With her vibrant personality and confident charm, Jeanie has for sure captured everyone she meets’ hearts.
Looking ahead, Beth and Jo are excited to take Jeanie on a HHP Showing adventure, confident that her unique character will win over judges! From living stray in a garden, to being spoiled by her new family – Jeanie’s journey has been nothing short of extraordinary. With hopes of earning GCCF titles on the horizon, the future is certainly looking bright for this little star!
Be sure to stop by and say hello to Jeanie at any of her shows, starting from July – she will be eager to share her charm and cheekiness with you!
Found a Stray Cat or Kitten?
While we truly cherished our time with Jeanie in the office, and her story is nothing short of incredible, we recognise that many other cats are facing similar circumstances that we unfortunately cannot assist with.
As we are not a rescue centre, this was a one-time act of support. If you encounter a cat in need locally, we encourage you to reach out to rescue organisations In your area. Below are some nationwide examples:
